Kali Demaya - Akirapryde - 12-06-2016

Official Personal File: Kali Demaya

Name: Kali Demaya
Born: Core World of Brentaal IV
Birthdate: 2897 AOK
Species: Miraluka/Human
Mother: Satele Shan Demaya
Father: Jerec Demaya

Early Childhood:
Kali was born to Jedi Knights Jerec Demaya and Satele Shan Demaya on the world of Brentaal. Even at a very young age, she was a gifted force user, who also had a knack for the arts. Because of her parents, Kali enjoyed early training at the Brentaal Academy under the watchful eyes of her mother and father.

Kali took an early love of poetry, which she would carry with her throughout her training. It didn’t take long for Kali to earn a strong reputation across the Brentaal Academy as a gifted student of the Force. With the backing of a close family friend, Hego Damask, when Kali turned five she accepted in to training at the prestigious Coruscant Academy.

Life as a Youngling:
The wide eye youth took to training like a bird took to sky and in doing so, she soared high above her fellow classmates in many fields. Her skill with the double-bladed lightsaber was considered that of a protégé. This both solidified her reputation from Brentaal and earned the jealousy from her many of her classmates and even some instructors.

Kali’s aptitude and reputation came at an incredibly price. She was driven to push herself harder and harder to prove that she belonged at Coruscant. There were whispers that her sponsor had bought her way in to Coruscant’s halls. Her well below average skill with simple weapons and blasters didn’t help her disprove those whispers. This caused her to double her efforts to prove herself.

Harder she trained, the more her aptitude grew and with it her confidence. It wasn’t long before Kali was surpassing all her classmates. Because of this, Kali would take charge of her own learning. Teaching herself more and more complex technics with the double-bladed lightsaber caused a rift between her and her own classmates. This also created a strong sense of independence within her. Kali’s confidence and independence often led the youth in to trouble with her teachers.

Most notably Master Pru Hul, who was very vocal regarding her arrogance and defiance. During a training session, Youngling Kali Demaya entered in to heated debate over the use of force on a fellow classmate that Kali had disarmed. Kali had felt that she had taught her fellow classmate a valuable lesson in keeping hold of his lightsaber. Master Hul disagreed and Youngling Demaya spent the weekend pulling weeds from the Academy’s garden. Despite her difficulties with knowing when and what to speak, Kali always tried to respect authority.

Despite living on different worlds, Kali was extremely close to her parents. During her weekends (that weren’t taken up with remedial lessons in terms of punishments) Kali would return to Brentaal to visit with her parents. These visits were very important to Kali, and Master Hul (who had taken to over seeing her teaching) often used them to help keep the girl in line. The effort often paid off as Kali would make noticeable efforts to ‘bite her tongue’. This also created resentment between Kali and Master Hul

Thanks to her parents and friends of her parents, Kali was given extra training with the her chosen saber. This allowed Kali to advanced even further ahead of her fellow classmates. During her continued training, Kali’s mother and father were murdered while on mission Kessel Sector. The day before she was planned to depart Coruscant for her parent’s funeral, she and Master Hul had a very heated disagreement regarding death and the fear there of.

Pushed too far by Master Hul, Kali activated her saber and challenged the Jedi Master to a duel. Despite her natural ability and advanced training, Kali was no match for the famed Weapons Master. The duel ended with Kali being confined to her quarters for the rest of the month. A few of her classmates made several efforts to reverse Master Hul’s punishment, stating that this was cruel and unnecessary. Master Hul refused to change his mind and Kali missed her parents’ funeral.

When she turned eleven she was deemed ready to become a Padawan, two years before the rest of her classmates. At this time in her life, there were few Padawans who could hold a Lightsaber against her.

Life as a Padawan:
Youngling Demaya was selected by Master Urias Chun as his Padawan Learner. Under his guidance Demaya was given remedial training with the soldiers of the 10th Division. This training was geared at helping her become more experienced with other weapons besides just the double-bladed lightsaber. She also was able to expand her knowledge base in terms of military tactics and protocol.

Life as Master Chun’s Padawan was not easy for Kali. She and her Master often bumped heads and these disagreements often became heated. However, Master Drease noted that Master Chun often engineered these disagreements intentionally to push his Padawan. Master Chun continued her training with the Lightsaber. During her training, Padawan Demaya started to master both forms three and four.

Her first major mission for the 501st was in support of Knight Bree and her 2nd Battalion on the frozen world of Gul-zac. The mission was to arrest a local force sensitive leader that had been raiding nearby worlds. When the 2nd Battalion attempted to execute the arrest, things exploded and the 2nd Battalion found themselves fighting for their lives. The 2nd Battalion found themselves fighting a rear-guard action as they attempted to retreat off world.

After Knight Bree fell in combat, Padawan Demaya assumed command of the mission. Unwilling to retreat in the face of the enemy, Padawan Demaya decided to unleash a counter attack on the local raiders. During the battle, she was wounded several times yet was still able to saved her unit from destruction. After the battle, Padawan Demaya was awarded the Republic’s Purple Heart.

To learn what it meant to be a Republic soldier, Kali discarded her Jedi trappings and donned the uniform and armor of a Republic soldier. She immersed herself in to the world of her soldiers. Dining with them, training with them and even sleeping in the same billets as they did. This effort earned her the respect and admiration of the soldiers under her. With the help of her own soldiers, Padawan Demaya finely became proficient with Blasters and simple weapons.

Unofficially, Master Chun placed Padawan Demaya in command of the 2nd Battalion, 10th Division. Leading her soldiers, Kali would take part in numerous battles alongside the Masters of the 501st. During these engagements, she would often stand out. Like her Master, she always personally led her troops in to the heat of battle.

Knighthood:
After her remedial training alongside Republic soldiers was completed, Kali finally reached a skill set and the wisdom (obedience) needed to achieve Knighthood. In c2918 AOK, Kali Demaya was granted the rank of Jedi Knight of the Republic. In a very public ceremony before the 2nd Battalion, Master Drease stated that “I have never, in my lifetime, seen such a Padawan bloom so colorfully in such adversity.”

With her new rank, Master Chun officially promoted her to commander of the 2nd Battalion, 10th Division under Master Drease. Knight Demaya played a key role in the Battle of Fray leading her Battalion during some of the most brutal street fighting during the battle for the city of Baku.
