Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Bay - 07-10-2017

(Moving conversation to seperate thread for conciseness)

Quote:Jaden looked back at Bay and nodded his head. "Yeah man feel free to jump into the copilot seat. I've been meaning to talk to you about our little project anyway."

Bay eased himself to the copilots seat, took a second to orient himself and smiled. It had been a few weeks since he last piloted a ship. He missed it.

"Of course! I've been thinking about it non stop since you asked. This will be the first time I've had the resources to build something really bleeding edge."

He scratched his chin as his pocket droid scampered to a corner of the control panel.

"Actually, it will be the first time I've worked on a team whom weren't a bunch of Grease Monkeys. Do you know what how much man power we'll be able to invest in this project? I haven't had a chance to speak with the Chief Engineer about it yet."

" I haven't been able to speak to Cox about letting us use materials or man power for this yet, but being something of an engineer myself I've been researching blueprints on the B1, B2, and commando droid models and then applying it to the design for our droid. The actual robotics of it is something I'm gonna need help with." Jaden said while idly scratching his chin stubble. He then slid his datapad to Bay, "Here check it out."

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Bay - 07-10-2017

Bay took the datapad and quickly skimmed the blueprints. The B1 and B2 were pretty basic, the B2 being a more robust version of it's predecessor. Bay didn't think it would be a problem to build a B1 in a few days.

The Commando Droid was something entirely different though. These things were agile, durable, and smart. The schematics for just the arms were about as long as the entirety of the B1's.

"You've kind of given me something on really polar ends of the spectrum here. B1s are just barely more than walking guns. You could topple one over and it would probably fail. The Commandos on the other hand," Bay let out a whistle, "Man, something like that would be something to see. If I were to work on it every hour of every day would take me at least a month. Not to mention the cost of the parts. Probably be around six thousand credits worth of equipment. You think the droid brain you got would be able to handle something like that?"

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Jaden_Starchaser - 07-10-2017

"I mostly used the B1 to try to understand just what the hell they were thinking. The B2 is obviously the brawn and the hidden gun ports is where I got the idea for the wrist mounted guns. The commando droid though? That's the one that both intrigues me and makes me worried. They're able to take several shots and keep going as well as being infiltration experts," Jaden said. "The droid brain I have is a B1's, but if you look at the commando droid it looks like a modified B1."

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Bay - 07-10-2017

Bay bit his lip and kept silent for a few seconds.

To say that the Commando's brain was just a modification was an understatement. The Commando's had significantly more processing power. And that power was going to be needed for handling it's more intricate body.

Bay shifted in his seat and looked at his pocket droid.

"Well, we could certainly modify the existing brain to work with an upgraded body. The wrist mounted guns shouldn't be a problem either. Though it may interfere with it's movements if you want this droid to be as stealthy as a commando."

Bay bit his lip again.

"Do you trust this droid? Because it's going to be in control of a very dangerous body if we build something as tough as a Commando."

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Jaden_Starchaser - 07-10-2017

Jaden nodded his head. "While modifying the brain we could install a very strict friend or foe recognition software. Put safeguards against any tampering. However I don't want just a mindless drone. As for the wrist guns maybe an internal weapons system similar to the B2. Or we make it easily mountable and removable. Plug and play."

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Bay - 07-10-2017

"So it almost sounds like you want a generalized battle droid. A jack of all trades type. Is there something in particular about the B1 brain that you want to use? Modifications can be more difficult than just building a new brain to fit the body."

Bay stopped for a second and made a small adjustment to the control panel.

"Either way, it's all a matter of resources. As long as we have them and given enough time, we can make any kind of droid you want."

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Jaden_Starchaser - 07-10-2017

Jaden sighed. "Truthfully there's nothing I really like about the B1. They're a bunch of clumsy clankers if you ask me, but...the brain was given to me by a friend who is no longer with us. He gifted it to me a couple of weeks after he heard I had plans to develop a droid for our party. It seems like a waste if we didn't use it for something."

A frown marked Jaden's face. "I didn't always agree with this friend's methods; especially when it concerned another dear and departed friend of mine, but he was a friend and a bit of a mentor. It'd be a shame to waste his gift. We'd need to ask Cox for any resources he'd be willing to give us."

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Bay - 07-10-2017

"Actually," Bay said, "even if we don't have the resources available, it may be possible for us to get all the resources we could possibly want."

He turned and flashed his teeth.

"I've been thinking about this idea for a while now, but couldn't do it because I didn't own a ship or had the initial funds to start it."

He peaked at the door to make sure it was shut and leaned in to Jaden's ear.

"It would probably involve destroying a planet given enough time," he whispered, "Sound interesting?"

RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay) - Jaden_Starchaser - 07-10-2017

Jaden raised both of his eyebrows upon hearing that. "Destroying a planet?!" he whispered and it took almost all his control not to yell that part out. "You do mean an uninhabited planet right? The ones that are dead and not full of life?"
