Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/08/2022
The Gungnir is a bustle of activity as she prepares to leave the planet's surface. Durro, having just finished his preparations, goes in search of Hadaza.
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
He will find her in the galley, cataloging supplies for the upcoming trip.
"Master Thel-Tanis!", she says, caught off guard. Did you need something?

"Just wanted to see how your mission went. Did you find any closure for the... issues we discussed?"
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
She stops what she is doing, adopting a thoughtful pose. "The mission is not what we expected it to be. We expected information on the Swarm at the very least." She barks laughter. "Boy did we get that wrong!"  She rolls her eyes and shakes her head, expressing how foolish she feels about the mistake. "What we did find out may benefit us more in the long run, however. So there's that. The Sisters may very well lead us to whatever it is we need to defeat them yet"

She turns back to the pantry and continues her work, "As to the other matter ... no. I'm sorry to tell you that there's been nothing new to report."

"I'm sure it's just a matter of time." He says with a smile.

He moves to assist her in cataloging and storing their supplies.

"What makes you think The Sisters are the enemy who need defeating?"
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
She looks a bit confused at the old Jedi .. then laughs.
"Oh, no, I didn't mean ... " she continues to chuckle helplessly.

Finally able to collect herself, she says, "I'm so sorry, Durro.  I didn't mean to imply that the Sisters were the enemy. My apologies for mis-speaking. I meant that being able to track their movements may lead us to planets where the damn bugs have been and gone where we might learn how to defeat them, not the Sisters."
She sits down on a crate in the pantry, trying to gather the last vestiges of her wits.

Durro chuckles as well, realizing the mistake.

"I suppose that's why how we say something is as important as what we say. Grammar is important, younglings!"

"Perhaps when the galley is inventoried I can challenge you to another race, before we're stuck in hyperspace for a while. I'm determined to prove that I've not grown completely old and frail."

"Oh, and I wanted to know if you found what you needed from the Sabacc book. I thought I may look at it myself; it seems interesting. I've never dabbled in cartomancy, but I understand it's quite popular in some circles."
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
She is stunned at his revelation, not sure which comment she wishes to address first. She decides on the easier of the two.

When she picks her jaw up off the floor, she says "You found something?! I would love to ... ... ..." she doesn't finish her sentence, remembering what she told Tesara about taking a break from it for a while. Which puts her in mind of the second part of his statement.

She looks up at the man who feels to her heart like a father, though he is not that much older than she, her countenance dropping into resignation.  "I think both of those things will have to wait for a little while, Durro. I'm not up to the challenge that either present me just now."

Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/08/2022
"Because of the leg? I'm sorry, I wasn't even thinking..." He trails off, glancing at the deck plating.

Looking back up at her, he sees her surprise.

"Sorry to get your hopes up; no, I've not found anything. I asked if you found anything useful in the book. And, if I may borrow it. I don't know I'll have time to read it, but the subject seems interesting."
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
She can't help but smile at the second miscommunication they've had in just these few moment. She rises and hugs him, hoping that silence is clearer than their words have been.

She pulls back, but not away. "Yes, because of the leg. Tesara has healed it to a point. But, given it's depth and location, she says that Handyman would have to finish it. I choose to keep it as a reminder of important lessons, though I'm sure the scar will need to be re-inked if I ever return to Dathomir."

Holding his upper arm in her hand, as though the physical connection will ensure her words are conveyed correctly, she tells him,  "Tesara has the book and the cards. She took them from me when she helped me with my accident. She felt that I had devoted too many of my nights, and too much of my sleep, looking for answers that were not going to manifest for me. You are welcome to try, but I would ask that you keep any discoveries to yourself for now..
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/08/2022
Durro nods in understanding.

"Very well; I'll keep that in mind. It does raise another question I've been meaning to ask. What do you remember about Dathomir? I hear moments here and there where you seem to lose yourself for a second; say something in Dathmirian. Do you remember the language?"

"I have a Basic to Dathomirian Dictionary from the library. I've been studying it, but it's not useful for learning the language itself. Would you be able to teach me?"
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
"You know, it's funny. It's as though you telling me that I could speak the language unlocked something. I am as fluent as if it were," she laughs again, "my first language. I use Basic when I'm with the crew. But in my quarters, and in my head regardless of location, I find myself reverting to a language that a few months ago was as unknown to me as my own past. I can't thank you enough for that. Its a beautiful language and gives me a sense of self confidence that I had been lacking."

"Sadly, she continues, that appears to be all I remember." Tapping her head, she says, "I have to believe there's something in there somewhere. Otherwise I wouldn't have the language. But I can't access it, not consciously at any rate." She frowns. "Occasionally there are nightmares, though I don't often remember those either."

She sucks on her lip, her mind moving faster than her words can keep up. "Its the oddest thing, these things I'm missing from my life. I have memories of language, but not of words or concepts. Do you remember our first conversations, I mean the first real conversations? You had to explain the Force to me. Why would that have been lost along with my past?"

Seemingly non-sequitur, she blurts, "Did you know that I can understand Wookie too? Why would I know that and not know that I can make objects move through the air?"

"Tesara can comprehend languages, even if she can't speak them." He muses. "It's a skill of her peoples' Yilsaani, or shaman. Perhaps your people had a similar skill."

"Cóż, jest tylko jeden sposób, aby się dowiedzieć."

"Ti o ba loye eyi, lẹhinna ibeere naa ni idahun."

"Though that doesn't answer my question." He continues in basic. "Do you remember enough to teach another?"
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
She blinks at him, thoroughly lost and laughs as she shakes her head. "Nope! No joy there, I'm afraid." She looks impishly at him, "But give me a little while. If Tesara can speak them, I'm sure I'll pick them up eventually."

Undervisning? Nå er det et interessant konsept, she muses. "I don't see why not. I mean, if I can think in both languages simultaneously, I should be able to teach it to someone. But I've never, or at least I don't think I've ever, done any teaching. You will have to promise to be patient with me", she grins at him.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/08/2022
"The first language was Huttese; Tesara doesn't know that one. I learned it as a much younger man in the Jedi Order." He smiles at some of the memories.

"The second language is the language of Tesara's people, so she can definitely teach it to you if she wishes." He chuckles.

"I'd love to learn; I'll be patient, as long as you're patient with me. My mind isn't as... flexible as it used to be. There's a reason younglings pick up these things much easier."
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
"You do yourself a disservice, Master Jedi. I believe you to be much more agile in both mind and body than you present yourself to be." She thinks about the ruse that the Professor so often employs when trying to set an adversary off kilter.

"And I'm pretty sure that you are not that much older than I. If I can' learn a new way of being, you can certainly learn a new language"
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/08/2022
"Fair enough. I look forward to us learning from one another as we battle for the fate of the entire galaxy." He grins at her. "No pressure."
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
She laughs hardily at the thought of what words Durro might learn from her in the heat of battle. "I don't think the language of war is conducive to polite society, but we'll work with what we have."

With thought turned to the coming battle, she gets suddenly serious. "I would ask one thing of you, Durro. Remember what you promised and come back to us."
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/08/2022
"I will." He says solemnly. In a lighter tone he adds; "We seem to have plenty of tea; I notice I'm not the only one drinking it. Have you developed a taste?"
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/08/2022
She blushes slightly. "You could say that"

Clearing her throat, she continues, "Actually, your calming blend helps on nights when the terrors are particularly bad. If you could arrange to have more of that one specifically, just in case, I would appreciate it."
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/08/2022
"I'll see what I can do." He says with a kind smile. "I've long sworn by the therapeutic effects of a good cup of tea."

The stocking finished, he turns to leave.

"Let me know when that leg heals; if we race as soon as you are able, I may stand a chance."
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/09/2022
She grins, rolls her eyes, and shakes her head lightly at his self-deprecating jest. "Tell you what, Venerable One," she teases, "when the time comes for a rematch, I'll put a rock in my boot. I figure, that way, I'll remember to let you win. I'll even put some of your favorite tea at the finish line as incentive."

Despite earlier reservations, she has come to care a great deal for this man. She's learned from Tesara that there is power in these feelings that swamp her. So she acts on them now. She walks to him and engulfs him, sending love and gratitude for his presence in her life and hope for a safe return.

Softly, voice thick with emotion, she says, "May the Gods Below bless your journey, Durro, and bring you and Astra safely home." She kisses him sweetly, high on his cheek, and steps back to let him go.

@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 02/09/2022
Durro returns the hug, holding her tightly.

"Thank you. I'll do my best to return to you. To all of you."

They part, and Durro bows respectfully, uncertain how much he will see of her on the trip, since he and Astra will be navigating.

"May the Force be with you, Hadaza."
@Hadaza
Hadaza — 02/09/2022
She sets her hands in a triangle before her abdomen, reflecting his show of respect. This bond, formed so quickly yet so deeply, gives her peace.
"And also with you, Durro", she replies and watches as he walks away to whatever awaits him.
