Character/Family Background

Bit of World History as Arechi is not a Canon World
Located 50 Light Years from the border of the Outworlds Alliance

During the 23rd Century, Arechi was colonized by settlers from the west coast of America. It was an Age of War and the Inner Sphere was going through what many historians called the Second Exodus from Terra. Arechi was a tropical world filled with lush continents and deep blue seas. It was one of the most resource rich worlds within the Periphery and its people were some of the friendliest and open.

While worlds around the Inner Sphere were being caught in the age of conflict, Arechi became a safe haven for those fleeing the war that was burning the Inner Sphere to the ground. Refugees from worlds that would become the Draconis Combine and the Federated Suns found Arechi as a place to continue their conflicts. It didn’t take long for deep routed hatred and distrust to spring disaster across the world in the form of Thermo-Nuclear war. No one knows how it began, but everyone knows the year it happened. 2451, the power across Arechi went dark as the mushroom clouds rose over the world.

By the time a Davion fleet arrived to finish the war, Arechi was a dead world. Cities were laid to ruin and millions were dead. The world was heavily radiated and it was assumed that the world’s population had all completely perished in the conflict. As the Davion fleet left Arechi, the world slipped from the pages of history. Out of the ashes of that war, the survivors of that war crawled out of their shelters to a terrifying new world. Where the combination of hope for the promises of technology, and lurking fear of nuclear annihilation became the norm for the survivors.

Today, life on Arechi is best described as being stuck in the middle of a post-apocalyptic game world where life and death are always in the balance. This Periphery world is locked within a atompunk retrofuturistic setting where the culture is heavily influenced by the post-war culture of 1950s West Coast of America in some regions while others are more like feudal Japan. And in between, the cultures mix with surprising results.

In 3129, Arechi was rediscovered by the Comstar Explorer ship Divine Light. Arechi became a favorite resupply stop for the Arechi.

Suki’s History

Suki was born in the Higo Province located on the island of Kyushu of Arechi. Because of its deep copper mines, Higo Province is one of few Provinces in the east that trades with the mainland. Because of this trade, Higo Province is the most economical powerful regions on Arechi. With a population of just over a five hundred thousand across the entire 2,858.75 square miles it is one of the most densely populated regions on Arechi.

Suki’s father, a noble soldier for the local shogun, died before she was born and her mother died during child birth. Suki was raised by her grandfather (on her mother’s side), Kaede Wakahisa. Before Suki was born, Wakahisa was a proud member of the Kikuchi clan’s noble samurai. He was disgraced and forced to work in the mines of Higo till his honor could be restored.

As Suki grew up, Kaede taught Suki about the ways of the samurai and of bushido. Life for Suki was hard. During the day she spend much of her time working around the mines helping where ever she could. At night, her Grand-Father taught her how to read and write. Through her life, Suki had a strong knack for finding things. It was said that if Suki couldn’t find it, it was lost for all time. She was often tasked with helping load the large wooden sail boats from the mainland. Because of her work along the docks and in and around the mine, Suki was able to learn the language of the ‘Round Eyes’.

When Suki was thirteen her Grand-Father died in a mining accident. Due to family debts, Suki lost her home and most of her belongings. During much of the next year, Suki spent her time with a local street gang as well as in and out of local orphanages. Her father’s sword was the only thing she had managed to maintain during this time period. It became her most valued item.

Life for Suki changed when a strange ship landed on Arechi. Its crew cloaked in white seemed to come from the sky like the Gods of old. As word of the Visitor ship spread, fear and excitement washed over the citizens of Higo Provence, for it was here that the visitors decided to land. The Visitor ship landed just outside of the capital of the province, the Castle city of Kumamoto. As the army of Higo lined up between the city and the strange egg shaped ship. Ten thousand of Higo’s finest warriors lined up on both foot and horseback. It was truly a sight that Suki would never forget.

The visitors had come when Arechi needed them the most. A plague was washing over the mainland and had started to infect the citizens of Higo Provence. To everyone, the arrival of the visitors was a sign from the Gods and ancestors that hope had returned to Arechi.

The visitors walked down from their ship in their white cloaks and hoods. They seemed so mysterious with their strange things and their strange ways. The visitors promised to bring medicine and new ways of farming to Arechi. While the leaders of Higo Provence and the visitors were celebrating their new treaty, Suki’s gang were intrigued by the strange visitors and their strange sky ship.

That night, half on a dare and half because of her own curiosity, Suki sneaked aboard the Visitor’s ship. It was to Suki’s surprise that the visitors were made up of strange round eyes of different skin colors. There were even one or two like her. Suki couldn’t help but wonder if the Gods of old were truly like them? It was the first time Suki saw a large machine of war. The size of the thing was so large that Suki couldn’t believe her own eyes. Seemed as large as a wooden sailing ship from the mainland.

Lost in the sight before, Suki was caught by a visitor not much older than she was. Suki tried to flee but was quickly captured. In light of her crimes, Suki faced death if returned to her people. The Shogun had declared that no one from Higo would go near the Visitor’s ship in honor of their arrival. Instead, the visitor who caught her pleaded for Suki to remain among the visitors. Suki was given a mentor, Katya Johns. The two became close friends as Katya was tasked with teaching Suki the ways of Comstar.

This began Suki’s career with Comstar. She started off as a simple laborer and general ‘Go For’ girl to the group as they moved from community to community. Suki impressed her new family with her ability to find things and acting as translator between other Arechi communities. Suki watched first hand how the visitors brought salvation from the plague. How they help with their medicine. It took weeks for Suki to come to terms that was walking among Gods.

But then came an opportunity that Suki never dreamed of. The offer that she could actually leave Arechi for the first time. There were rumors of other worlds nearby where Suki's translation abilities would be needed. Suki jumped at the opportunity to go beyond her world and in to the unknown. Being in space was like noting Suki ever imagined. She loved it but was also looking forward to returning to her home in just two years’ time.

Suki heard stories of other worlds. More worlds than one could count as Katya had once said. As time passed, Suki found herself wondering if she could ever return to the life she once knew. Could she give up this new world that Comstar had shown her. On the eve of her fifteen birthday, Suki finally made a choice to remain with Comstar and continue her adventures with them. After her birthday, Suki would take the trials that would allow her to continue her Comstar Career and help other worlds like her own.
