Unna's Findings on Cordelia (Character Knowledge)
When Unna has a chance to speak with the party, she will share the following information.
"I went to Master Chun and Master Fa'lynn to speak about my quest for atonement. There is no need to worry about this any longer. I am on my way. I was given the task to learn what I can about who Cordelia is, not what mistakes she has made, without using my force abilities. I was given a box of her personal possessions and inside I found a data pad. What I discovered was a young woman, not unlike myself, who made mistakes that were unatoned for and was never able to forgive herself.
"Cordelia was a daughter and a sister, as well as the pride of her hometown. The entire community pooled their resources to send her to the Jedi Academy on Antar IV. This was a source of pride for her, but also a source of guilt, because of how everyone had worked so hard to help her get there. Her dreams were stolen from her when she attempted to help a couple of travelers who were in trouble. A gang robbed her of everything, with exception for the data pad. They robbed her of her tuition money, and in turn robbed her of her dream.
"Forced to find a way to survive, she found a job as an exotic dancer. This was a source of great shame for her, but to spare her family of the shame, she lied to them and claimed to be well and learning in the academy. There were several letters to her from her brother, indicating his and the rest of the family and community's pride in her. I read back and forth between the letters and her diary and learned about these lies and how much shame she felt. One thing was clear through all of this: she never forgave herself.
"She was brutally sexually abused by one man after another. The night seemed endless to her. It was after that event that she began selling her body to men. There was a silver lining to this for her though. She was able to start saving up money for the academy tuition, as well as being able to send money and gifts home. She never stopped trying to care for those who loved her.
"She has several clients, some from the academy. One in particular stood out to her. She began to form a sort of bond with him. Around the same time, her boss noticed that she had abilities, he gave her a mission to get to know him, then get into the academy. She did this with success and received a great amount of compensation for the job. Things were really beginning to look up for Cordelia. She felt that she was going to be able to take a place at the academy, by the side of her John, who she referred to only as John B.
"That was until she realized her money had been stolen. She confronted her nemesis coworker and her coworker's friends began to gang up on her. Although her intentions were not ill, and she only meant to defend herself, she accidentally killed her nemesis when using the Force to push off her attackers. This was something she was unable to forgive herself for."
Unna paused for a moment. She was able to relate to this.
"She was all but blackmailed by Karoff, her boss. As if she couldn't already forgive herself, he said the Jedi would not be able to forgive her either. Then he made her an offer: he could make it go away and help her into the academy, but in exchange she had to get into the academy and steal crystals. This was her third chance and she took it, but unfortunately it would be the end of this road for her as well. There was a hiccup in the plan when John B sensed her presence and had a violent encounter with Cordelia's partner in the heist. Her partner was about to murder John B, when she used the force to pull her partner away. Her partner died. As John B put away his lightsaber, he gave her a look of disappointment she would never forgive herself for.
"After a raid on the strip club, she left with Karoff and began to do more jobs with him. Her stage name was Vixen and throughout the letters from her brother, it was indicated that she told him that she was off traveling, hunting Vixen. This showed me the extent of the guilt she felt. The amount of self loathing she felt toward herself was very apparent from the way she demonized herself without actually telling her brother that she was in fact talking about herself.
"As I was running out of time to do my research, I read of some of the jobs she did, but skipped ahead to see where the letters ended. Her brother wrote to her boss instead of her. She was presumed dead. I have not yet had the chance to read the details surrounding this in her diaries, but perhaps she just couldn't stand the lies anymore."
Unna paused once more and clasped her hands in front of her. Her head was bowed, as in giving a eulogy. "Cordelia's story was a story of a girl who could never forgive herself. She was much more than that though. She was a lover of music, a lover of travel, and a lover of those she met. There are countless photos to be seen of her travels and it is clear that she was more than her mistakes. Perhaps if she had been able to forgive herself, she would have been able to become everything she dreamed and more. She had so much potential, but with so much self hatred, she was unable to live out that potential. It is a valuable lesson to me, and I hope it can touch your hearts as well. There is much more to learn of Cordelia, but this is all I have for now."
