A in-depth look in to Fray
World of Fray
Outer Rim Territories
Date: 2919 AOK

Welcome to the Independent World of Fray! Fray is can be found in the Veelox Sector. The Veelox Sector is located halfway between Ziost and the Corporate Sector. The Veelox Sector is just over five hundred parsecs across. Fray resides on the edge of the Veelox Sector in an unimportant region of that space. Fray was discovered during the Great Manifest period, nearly twenty thousand years ago. Seeking a resource rich world to plunder Fray was discovered by a pair of explorers, whose names have become lost to History. While the world was plentiful with natural resources, the discovery went unreported for hundreds of years. That changed with the world’s location was discovered in a journey by a descendant of one of those explorers.

Fray is a large world, slightly larger than Coruscant with vast tracks of undiscovered forests and deep jungles. The world is lined with a network of large rivers that interconnect its nearly six million lakes, and half a dozen inland seas. Below the surface, one would find Fray’s best resource. That being a ninety kilometer thick layer of water. Vast mountains contain large deposits of minerals and precious metals. The north and south pole are caped with beautiful white glaciers that are reportedly older than the Jedi Order. There it is rumored that there is a city frozen under the glaciers.

The first settles to Fray followed the old Thisspias Trade Route, which ran in to the heart of the Veelox Sector. For these first settles, life was very good. They enjoyed monthly supply shipments from the growing Expansion Region. For nearly two thousand years, the Thisspias Trade Route was considered the Silk Road of the period. Fray’s population grew from a few hundred, to a few hundred million over the same period of time. While the primary settlers of Fray were humans from the Core Worlds, a small degree of Twi’lek settlers also started to call Fray home.

Nearing seventeen thousand years ago, Fray reached its largest population at that point, over nine hundred million. That same year, the supply ships stopped coming. Ships were dispatched to discover the reason behind the stoppage. Those ships exited hyperspace during the beginning of the Alsakan Conflict. Many brave crews lost their lives or were captured by one side or the other. Those few that managed to return reported the conflict. While Fray was wealthy in natural resources, it lacked manufacturing. Up to this point, Fray had depended solely on its exports and importing manufactured goods. This suddenly became a serious problem for the people of Fray.

As refined supplies started to grow thin, the population started to see a negative growth rate. The world was on the verge of a global conflict over resources. This forced the leaders of Fray to create the Fray Accords. The world and its shrinking resources were divided up between the most powerful and wealthy families. Those families were Rontane, Ferrell, Tronos, Sakonna, Mandrel, Baku, Piri and Secura. These families already controlled a sizable force and wealth, now they moved from Kirrin and created their own powerful city states.

While some families ruled by fair and noble hands, others were more ruthless and desired to grow their own powerbase. However, the Fray Accords demanded that all ruling families worked together for the betterment of the people of Fray. In the Accords offered one promise to all families. Should one or more attempt to tip the balance of power and resources, the rest would turn on them and destroy that family. The City of Kirrin was named the Capital because it held the largest spaceport at the time. Kirrin would be considered neutral ground for the families to gather and meet to discuss issues that affected all of Fray.

For the first three decades, these meetings didn’t have a name nor did they really address any serious issues that faced Fray. With the drastic decline in the global population and the departure of the last Hyperspace capable ship, Fray was becoming more isolated by the year. While the Fray Accords worked to keep the peace, and create areas of influence, there were those who wanted to create a body that would allow Fray to move from a settlement world to a growing world. No one pressed this agenda more than House Secura’s own leader Oola Secura. A former Jedi Master, and now House Nobel and local leader of Fray.

For years, House Secura worked tirelessly to raise support for the Council. Their largest ally was House Baku and House Rontane. During this time, and unknown to the people of Fray, the Thisspias Trade Route in part would become lost to history. Lacking all means of communicating or traveling out of system, the people of Fray were completely cut off from the rest of the Galaxy. Sensing a shadowed future, Oola Secura, pressed her efforts to create the Council. The first meeting of the Council was set three months after her death. The body elected unanimously to call themselves the Council of Secura. In honor of the woman who worked so hard to create the ruling body.

Over the next several thousand years, Fray started to claw its way back from the brink. Through the efforts of the Council of Secura, resources were used to their most effectiveness. Factories started to be built and tensions across the world were managed. They just started to colonize their own system and build their own ships. Though the one thing that they lacked was hyperspace technology. Because of this, the Council of Secura authorized the construction of many large monitors that would patrol their home system. Fray’s population started to reach levels that it had achieved during the Great Manifest period. It was a period called, The First Golden Age of Fray.

The Council of Secura had never been at its strongest when the Mirial Crisis occurred. Five thousand years ago, a large group of warships from Mirial entered Fray’s system. Without warning and later claiming that they were destroying the root of darkness, the strange aliens attack. The war lasted for over five centuries before Fray could drive the invaders from the system. During that time, the Council of Secure worked hard from secret locations to keep Fray strong and to resist the invaders. In the aftermath, Fray’s colonies were laid to waste and much of the world was devastated. Fray’s victory seemed hollow considering the level of distruction.

It wasn’t long after the Mirial Crisis had concluded that traders from Tiss’Sharl arrived at Fray’s doorsteps. Originally seeking only trade, they saw a world on the verge of defeat. The Tiss’Sharl overflew cities that were still left burning from the Mirial Crisis. The Tiss’Sharl Trader’s landed, learned as much as they could about Fray before leaving. Sensing the people’s despair and suffering, the Council of Secura hailed the encounter with these off world traders as a positive sign. That was until the Tiss’Sharl returned in force.

This triggered the Tiss’Sharl Conflict. Once more, Fray was invaded and this time its battered military could only offer a moderate defense. After a few months of bitter conflict, Fray was occupied. Unlike the Mirial Crisis, the Tiss’Sharl came to enslave the people of Fray. The people of Fray were subjugated and the Council of Secura disbanded. Rebels fought a brave campaign against the Tiss’Sharl for over two hundred years. In the end, the Tiss’Sharl found that occupying Fray, despite its resources was simply too costly. Like the Mirial, before them, the Tiss’Sharl were driven off world. And like the Mirial, they left behind them a devastated world.

For the next two thousand years, Fray was left out of major galactic affairs. While it slowly rebuilt its self after the brutal Tiss’Sharl occupation, the renewed Council of Secura sought to reverse engineer ships captured from the Tiss’Sharl and Mirial. It wasn’t long until Fray had rejoined the Galactic neighborhood. Their first exploration brought them to the world of Ziost, and the Sith. Where the rest of Fray’s neighbors saw a weak world ready for concurring. Twice, Fray had thrown off occupiers of their world and came out of these occupations stronger than before. The Sith saw a world that had strength of will and a resilience to resist to the bitter end, and this they valued.

It wasn’t long before Fray and Ziost became close allies. Fray offered its resources to Ziost while Ziost made sure that the Tiss’Sharl and Mirial wouldn’t return. Fray started to prosper once more and this started the Second Golden Age of Fray. Fray’s military might became widely renowned across the region with the creation of the Oola Class Light Frigate. These ships barely made the classification of capital ships and were prefect for their roles of system defense. It was the first Hyperspace capable ship that Fray produced.

While the Oola was technically a Frigate, it maneuvered more like a smaller ship. She packed a power punch for a ship her size and had reasonable shields and armor. Designed to fight in squadrons, the ship was prefect for defending Fray from future invaders. With her class one hyperdrive, limited crew requirements and large stores, the Sith found the little ships to be extremely sound raiders. With the help of the Sith and their new fleet of Oolas, Fray conquered a few Tiss’Sharl colonies and enslaved the population. Fray continued its outward growth by enslaving the population of a few Milial colonies.

Three thousand years ago when Rhydonium was discovered on Fray! Rhydonium is a fuel used on all spacefaring craft. Surveyors suspect that Fray’s Rhydonium fields are more plentiful than even those found on Abafar. Rhydonium granted Fray a new found wealth that it never experienced before. It was a time of explosive economic growth for Fray. And with their allies, the Sith, Fray exploited its new found wealth to create a powerful manufacturing base. A base that was built with the hands of slaves.

Though not all houses enjoyed the same degree of wealth. The richest fields located in territory controlled by Houses Secura and Rontane. Houses Sakonna, Mandrel and Piri were able to enjoy some of the wealth. The Houses of Baku, Ferrell and Tronos were left out of the wealth. Though House Baku decided to change that. House Baku sought off world investments from the Sith to build the largest refinery in the Outer Rim. The thinking was if Baku couldn’t get to the wealth, then the wealth would flow through its refineries. And it was just in time, for the Sith called upon Fray to help crush their most hated of enemies.

As Darth Malgus was waging his war against the Republic, it was Fray’s fuel that made that war possible. And Baku became a house hold name across the region. Across the Core Worlds, the Oola Frigates became a hated sight. Raiders would jump in to system and blast populated regions of Core Worlds with little or no warning. Oolas would attack any soft target of opportunity causing the Republic to redeploy much of its naval assets to protect vulnerable worlds and shipping lines. So hated were the Oolas that they were often fired at upon first sight. Of the thousand Oolas known to have been built, all of them were hunted down and destroyed by the Republic.

As the war turned against the Sith, Fray found its self under attack once more. This time, the invaders were the Republic led by the Jedi. Years of ruthless raiding was about to be repaid back on Fray. Waves of Republic warships slipped in to system and knocked away the few ships that attempted to stop the invasion. It was a heroic battle, and the ships of Fray lived up to their reputation. But they couldn’t hold back the waves of fighters and warships from the Core worlds. Frays, shipyards were blasted in to oblivion. Fray’s colonies were breached to space and the people were left to suffocate.

But the bulk of the Core World’s revenge was meant for Fray. Despite pleas from the Jedi, Fray was subjected to weeks of orbital bombardment. Only after that was the might of the Republic sent down to the world. Once more Fray was occupied by an invading army. While the Republic news called it a liberation, for the people of Fray saw it as another occupation. While they fought back, the will of the people were broken. But this occupation wouldn’t last. After the defeat of Darth Malgus and the destruction of the Sith Empire, the occupation of Fray was lifted.

While the official occupation was lifted, a Republic appointed governor was left over all in charge of Fray. Needing the help of local leaders, the Republic reformed the Council of Secura. They also allowed the noble families of Rontane, Ferrell, Tronos, Sakonna, Mandrel, Baku, Piri and Secura to take their place in Fray’s leadership. The Jedi built a temple in the city of Baku and a training Academy in the city of Kirrin. The Jedi and Republic maintained a sizable force on Fray to ‘protect the people of Fray.’ Though the body of these forces were centered on the large fuel fields of Fray and the Refineries of Baku.

While the Republic played the noble friend to Fray, this was far from the truth. Learning from Fray’s past, the Republic devised a plan that would ensure the world would not turn on their ‘friendly neighbors.’ Unfortunately for the people of Fray, instability rocked Fray’s politics as the Noble Houses started to turn on each other. This was all part of the Republic’s plans. Republic agents made sure to sew distrust between the noble houses of Fray. This was done to ensure that fuel from Fray could be bought by the Republic at a below mark price.

Over the next thousand years, Fray slowly rebuilt itself. Though it never achieved the level of greatness that it had during the two golden ages. The distrust that the Republic had done so well to sew finally exploded in to open warfare between the Noble house five decades ago. No one knows what started the conflict, but what was known is that the blood of this conflict rested solely in the hands of the Republic. When three Republic Spies were captured by House Piri, they were forced to expose three centuries of Republic meddling in Fray’s local politics.

Republic Senate refused to believe the claims made by House Piri, it was Master Wistre Eridan of the Jedi Order and former Master of Baku’s Temple confirmed the claims. Addressing the Senate, Master Eridan spoke with great sadness as he spoke of how the Republic had intentionally sewed conflict on Fray to ensure that its fuel would keep flowing and to prevent the world from resisting occupation. Master Eridan laid all the Republic’s dirty laundry from Fray bare for all to see. Assassinations, Sabotage and betrayal of trust became talking points in the Senate as the scandal exploded.

When the scandal finally died down, the Supreme Chancellor was forced to resign, the Republic was forced to leave Fray completely, and Master Eridan quietly left the Order. For Fray, it was left alone in the middle of a brutal civil war. The years of conflict left deep divisions within Fray’s population. No longer were they united. The Council of Secura would never be seated again. Fray was doing to its self, what three occupations failed to do. It was ripping its self apart.

Without outside influence and faced with a sizable enemy, House Baku struck a bargain with the Jedi. In exchange for cheap fuel and the use of its City, they would grant him a wife who was Force Sensitive and forge a public alliance with the House. This staved off attack as the war raged around the planet. It was the Jedi’s turn to bring peace to Fray. Under the leadership of Master Chun, the Jedi’s elite 501st Strike Legion crushed the waring Houses. This left a powerful power vacuum on Fray, so the minor house of Dis'Dor was selected to take ruler over Fray. Though there were calls in the Senate to annex Fray and its vast fuel reserves, this was halted by the new incoming Chancellor, Chancellor Syrdash.
