RE: The Clearest Path
Ni considered Gadeon's words for a moment, but she seemed a little too tired to think straight. She only had one mode right now, and that was to regurgitate information.
After nodding off for a moment she springs to action again. "So, I think that covers the basic history..." says Ni with a big yawn, "The locals generally feel good about the OPA presence because they resent the Core World people and they don't want the Republic telling them what to do or how to live. A lot of people, specifically militia men, support this Giraffe and express gratitude for all he has done for them. They believe that the actions of the OPA have given them back their independence."
"You see," emphasizes the groggy Zeltron, "The issue on the table is the rights of the Republic versus the rights of the Baklid people, and other worlds that have been 'liberated' from the Republic. They want the Republic to butt out of their affairs and they see the last few years as progress toward a free planet. They take pride in doing everything their own way."
"As for the security of the planet..." Ni's voice lowered, grimacing as she explained, "It depends on what you consider secure. They have a very well-established system of law men, militia, and of course the OPA military. The almighty Giraffe did away with lawyers and judges when he purged the old government, so now this planet's form of justice is hanging a man on the spot if he is believed to be guilty of a crime worth swingin' for." She shivered, adding, "They are free to carry out sentences whenever they please, no trial or solid evidence required. I think the sheriff has to make the final call, but I'm not sure exactly. Oh, by the way, the guy I was out with? He is a sheriff. Sheriff Kaleb Saar. He comes from a royal family in the Core World but he has left that world behind."
There was a moment's pause as the Zeltron gathered her thoughts. "Let's see...what am I missing? Oh--" Ni grimaced, "This is the most important part. The information on the rebels..." she stifled another uncontrollable yawn with the back of her hand, "They are called the Dark Wings. They are led by an escapee of the former government, and they want things back to the way they were before mighty Giraffe went on his rampage. The leader is called a Celestial, a mean woman that pushed a deputy off a roof once, though that is only one side of the story. I know a man in a bar named De'is that we could apprehend for more information, but according to his sources, the woman we met at the Market Place was part of this Dark Wing movement. And that is why I think there is more to this mission than the chancellor is telling us."
Upon finishing her dissertation, Ni breathed a sigh of relief and flopped onto her back, resting her forearms over her eyes. Her dress flipped up to reveal her thighs. Either she was not aware of this or she did not care, for she added sleepily, "Oh, I don't know if this is significant, but there's this thing called Sanera that people inject to look young again but it also makes your libido shivel up into oblivion. Oh, and fire arms are illegal here but militia and other law people ignore this rule because they can. Oh, and watermelon wine is delicious, I wish I could have brough some back for all of you..." her voice trailed off as her breathing slowed.
