Delightful repairs 11/5/2021
TheTraveler — 11/05/2021
The engineering deck was normally a neat and tidy place that rarely sees visitors. In fact, this space was unknown to Mishka prior to Professor Kenobi landing his ship atop of the Jupiter One.
A single deck with a Port and Starboard access to each of the engine mountings. The Starboard mounting was the focus on the damage and as such where we find Mishka working.
Trying to pull a twisted metal fragment from the place it embedded in to the wall, Mishka wasn't having a easy time with it.
Her work overalls were already covered in grease and a numerous amount of different colored splotches. With a final effort she pulled the piece free, only to be rewarded by a steady spray of blueish green fluid. The new liquid assault drenched her from head to boot.
Ryan heard the sounds of the new leak as he rushed to her aid. He reached between a pair of pipes and started to pull on something. Groaning in effort he pulled on a lever that was barely visible. After a moment and slowly the leak came to a stop.
He turned to Mishka, and smiled. He couldn't help it feel for his new copilot. She stood there with soaked fur and her ears hung low. Part of him saw how cute she looked, another part found the situation laughable.
Smiling he laughed, "its okay. Happens to the best of us."
Mishka Winlat — 11/05/2021
Shaking off a little of the blueish green fluid, Mishka grumbled at herself for making such a mistake, but was thankful to Ryan for his aid. "I'm still learning, so this may happen to me again." She joked with a soft smile to him. Letting out a giggle, she wiped the liquid off her face with a cloth she grabbed up from nearby. "This is enjoyable work for me. I guess Aneta was right when she said I'm a hands-on type of person."
Finally turning her gaze to the pilot of the Jupiter One, Mishka could not stop the smile that crossed her face. Hearing him laugh felt good and made the butterflies in her stomach soar with glee. She was still worried about him after all that had happened, but seeing the smile and hearing the laughter was a good sign. It meant he was at least coping and she prayed she was helping in some way.
"What else do we need to do?" She asked.
TheTraveler — 11/05/2021
He gave a over exaggerate nod, "oh I am sure it will happen more often then you want to believe."
His mind heard her question, but that same dumb smile on his face was clearly evident that he was on the verge of checking out.
"Well we need to go ahead and start cutting away the old engine mounts, run new lines and prepare the hang the engine."
Well that is what his mind was trying to say. His mouth on the other hand said, "um yeah, we got stuff....."
His eyes couldn't be pulled from her smile, her eyes.
Finally his mind kicked in and opened the valve his hand was still on. A stream of blueish green fluid shot out once more and sprayed across Mishka...again.
Ryan's eyes went wide with surprise as he shut the valve once more. All he could do was laugh and say, "see....again"

Mishka Winlat — 11/05/2021
A small squeal escaped Mishka as the liquid splashed onto her once again. “Ryan!” She cried out with a laugh, having to shake the liquid off again. “You’re lucky I’m not in one of my kimonos.”
Grabbing up the cloth, she wiped her face again and tossed the fabric at him playfully. It was the one thing she could think to do that would best help keep the man distracted. She wanted to help in every way possible, after all. If that meant becoming a mess due to some engine fluid, so be it.
“You said something about the engine mounts, right? New lines…new lines…how do we do that again?” She asked, still trying to learn everything she could. With Ryan as her teacher, she was getting hands-on experience, which made learning a lot easier for the young half-Bothan. She always learned more when doing the job herself.
“Can you show me?” She asked as she walked over to him. Despite being soaked in the blueish green fluid, she still held a smile and that kind demeanor. “I want to learn so that if you’re ever unable to fix something, I can do it.”
TheTraveler — 11/05/2021
He smiled reaching over and getting her another towel, "I can. But there is a lot you need to learn about the engineering section." He motioned to a small blue mark on the top of the bulk head, "this matches the color of the fluid that you got prayed with. Don't worry, its just non-toxic hydraulic fluid." He motioned her towards him, "where every you see the color ribbons, there is always a shut off valve within forty centimeters."
He showed her the valve, "do you see the small metal medallion that is hanging off the valve." He moved back to allow her to get a good look of the bright goldish colored medallion. Inscribed on it was LHV 103. "It will take you time to learn this, but LHV means Landing Gear Hydraulic Valve number one oh three."
As she got a good look, he continued, "There is a master file on the back wall of the bridge that lays out all the lines, and where all the valves are. Those with a red ribbon are toxic, those like this with a blue ribbon are non-toxic." He smiled as she glanced back at him, "yeah, I kind of had plenty of time on my hands while everyone was off saving the galaxy or enjoying fancy resorts," he said with a smile.
Mishka could see from her place dozens of these little hand panted markers all over the engineering deck.
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/05/2021
Noting all the markers, Mishka made a mental note of all the information Ryan had given her. If she was going to get good at this job she wanted to make sure she remembered everything he told her. It was thrilling to learn new things and made her feel just a little more knowledgeable as well.
“You mean you never got to enjoy the fancy resorts with them?” She asked with curiosity as she silently counted all of the painted markers. “I admit I’ve never cared for fancy things like that, but it’s nice to learn what goes on in the places.” It was true that she really did dislike going to fancy places. Even when her parents dragged her along to visit places, she was always resistant. The only reason she would relent was to learn about a new culture or read whatever books were there for her to nab up.
Otherwise, Mishka had stayed hidden at home and imagined adventures on a real ship in space. It was ironic that she now got to follow that dream. All it cost was her family…
Shaking away the negative thoughts, she smiled and used the towel Ryan gave her to wipe more of the liquid off. “I’m going to have to study that thing if I want to make sure I keep the ship in tip top shape for you.” She commented with a hint of enthusiasm in her voice, a show of genuine interest and excitement in helping Ryan.
TheTraveler — 11/05/2021
He frowned, "I was never really invited." He shrugged his shoulders, "I actually loved the nightlife of Austerity. The clubs, the spice, the music, the spice, the girls......oh and the spice." He brushed off the thought and continued his class. As he led her down the walkway, he couldn't stop himself from remembering the first time he gave this class. It was to Amy, and like Mishka, Amy loved it. More cause they were spending time together. But the two shared similar bright eyes. He liked that.
He smiled and motioned her to follow, "Now, these cabinets are filled with spare parts and material needed to repair parts." He pointed to the markings on the doors which read, SBEZ2A. "That means Starboard Engineering Zone Two Alpha. The parts within this cabinet are only for the components of this section of the ship. It will help save you a bunch of time while doing critical repairs under the clock."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/05/2021
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Mishka replied as she looked over the cabinets and committed them to memory as well. Turning her gaze to Ryan, she offers him a genuinely kind smile. “I would have invited you. It would have been more fun to have company and someone to talk to than sit around and hide behind my books while my parents did most of the socializing.”
A slight blush crossed her face at the mention of this. It was always hard to admit she was not the social butterfly everyone seemed to treat her as. Yes, everyone was kind and seemed to know her on this planet, Dubrillion, but it did not mean they actually knew her personally. They mainly knew her through her parents.
She held no resentment towards this, though, for it was how she preferred things. Mishka was happier being in the background and working on an engine or reading a book. Being in the spotlight was always disconcerting. It certainly had been when that Kosh fellow gave her the deed to her home.
A part of her worried there was going to be a price to that one day.
For now, though, she was going to focus on the good around her. “I don’t think you need spice to have fun, though.” She finally murmured under her breath as she stepped closer to Ryan in order to get a good look at everything he was showing her. “Is there anything I need to know about when doing basic repairs between flights? I know a lot of smart pilots get that done so the ship doesn’t suffer later on.”
TheTraveler — 11/05/2021
He shook his shoulders, "while hanging out with them can be fun. It is always dangerous. I am not a rather brave man like they are. But I will tell you this, a vain full of spice, loud music, flashing color lights," he smiled as his eyes went wide. "Its like nothing you have ever seen before."
He noticed her stepping closer and nearly stumbled a bit as he moved to give her space. It was that damn spanner he meant to put away, he assured himself.
"Between missions, that's easy. Restock the ship for repair parts. Don't worry about the supplies, Tesara or Nova usually will take care of those. But you need to make sure that all the repair cabinets are fully stocked." He tapped the cabinet, "that is the most important. Next you want to make sure you work your Maintenance list. You will find that within the Engineering Computer on the Main Engineering Deck."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/05/2021
Mishka noticed his stumble, but resisted the urge to grab him since he seemed to steady himself well enough. “Should we go check that out then?” She asked, referring to the Engineering Computer. “Or, would you rather keep showing me how to actually repair the poor ship?”
A part of her knew she was just trying to spend more time with him, avoiding being alone with her thoughts. Losing her sister had been difficult, but the funeral seemed to make the situation too real for her. When Tesara mentioned heading back to the Jupiter One, Mishka had jumped for the chance to escape the depression leaking off of everyone.
Being here with Ryan, though, seemed to add a lot of light to it. His sunny disposition was something she appreciated and it helped fuel her own strength. Though, she suspected that underneath it all there was still a lot of pain. She understood that pain and wanted to help ease it, even if it was with just a simple hug at times.
“Thank you, by the way,” She spoke up after a long moment and probably some more explanations about the ship later. “Tesara and everyone have been so kind, but you’ve been the kindest so far. You even reminded me it was okay to be upset about what happened to me.” It felt odd bringing this up, but she needed to get these thoughts off her mind. “I’m also very proud of you for what you’ve been doing. Getting clean, even if it was just for Amy, was a very healthy choice. I hope I can help you stick to that, by way…you know, if you still want to get off Spice, that is.”
That heat was back at it, warming up her face with a renewed blush. Had she crossed the line with her words?
TheTraveler — 11/06/2021
His mind raced to the life he had planned with Amy. The ideas of leaving Ava's employment, having a family with Amy, and just being that guy down the street that everyone goes to. He suddenly felt the pain all over again. the woman he loved, the unborn child she carried. The life he had desperately looked forward to. All of that was gone.
He signed softly before saying, "you don't need to thank me." trying to break his thoughts of what he had lost. "Do you see that white and purple marker. It looks like all the other, but that is not a valve," he said softly. He walked over to where he motioned. "There are a few of these across the ship," he said reaching behind a pipe. "I got them just incase one of them Jedi goes mad," he said pulling out a large pistol. "The line is called Justice Keeper, but on the streets, their called Jedi Killers."
He showed her the heavy pistol, "if you are ever caught without a pistol back here or any where on the ship, look for white and purple. There you will find a weapon."
He lets her hold the pistol, "this is made by Yami. Its really top of the line."
@Mishka Winlat
Image
Mishka Winlat — 11/06/2021
Mishka held the pistol calmly, testing the weight in her hands to be sure she would know how to hold it properly. Over the years she had read up on weapons and how each worked for people of varying sizes. It all depended on the weight and kick of the weapon itself too, though.
“I’ll be sure to remember this.” She told Ryan after a moment as she handed the pistol back to him. “Very well made weapon, that’s for sure.” Feeling a little nervous, she tugged at a lock of her messy hair and remembered she would have to wash it out later.
She had felt the change in the mood and wanted to make up for causing such bad emotions, but her mind was racing now in a little panic. “I probably need to wash this stuff out of my hair.” She laughed softly.
TheTraveler — 11/06/2021
Ryan took the pistol back and slid it back in its hidden holster. "I painted all these little markers. There are eleven different color codes you will have to remember." He saw her demeanor shift slightly. He suddenly felt guilty for causing it.
Did made no effort to hide his emotions or guilt, "hey listen. You are great and have done nothing wrong."
He rubbed the back of his head nervously, "its just really hard." He wanted to smile for her, if for any reason to just allow her the comfort to know he was okay. But in truth he wasn't. He wanted to take the injector and Spice up till he felt nothing anymore.
He opened his mouth to tell her just that, but couldn't form the words.
Mishka Winlat — 11/06/2021
Noticing his open mouth, Mishka gave Ryan a kind smile and pulled him into a hug. “I know it’s hard, but remember what you told me. It’s okay to be upset.” She explained and made sure her hug was warm and welcoming for him. “I know that you probably use the Spice to forget things, but forgetting is like tossing away a part of ourselves. If you forget the bad you can sometimes forget the good that goes with it. Try to remember all the good you’ve had and look forward to the good to come in life.”
Pulling back, she turned those sweet blue eyes to him. If he met them he would see the genuine kindness and concern in them. “I’ll be here if you need someone to talk to and lean on, okay?” She told him.
TheTraveler — 11/06/2021
His eyes met her's and he smiled with warmth. He gave her a reassuring smile, "I will do my best. But please don't be fooled. I had been using spice most of my life," he said then paused. He looked thoughtful for a second. "I can't remember a time when I wasn't using."
TheTraveler — 11/06/2021
Feeling suddenly uncomfortable, "um, yeah lets get you cleaned up. I saw a shipyard on the far side of this town. I want to pick up parts for the repairs."
He motioned her to follow, "come on, I will let you use Ava's room to shower and change. " he glanced over his shoulder, "you know the funny thing about Ava is all her clothes. She has tens of thousands of credits worth of clothes. Some she only bought cause she didn't want anyone else to wear them." He laughed, "though this latest trend with the military uniform, this is the longest I have ever seen her hold to a style. I think it really means something to her."
he walked her to Ava's grand room on the Jupiter One. He opened up the closet, "see" he said. The large closet was packed with clothes, most appeared like they were only worn once.
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/06/2021
Mishka was careful not to touch anything fancy with how dirty the liquid had gotten her. She dare not get on this Ava woman’s bad side, but she did have to admit the clothes were nice. “I’ve never worn things like this.” She explained softly and tugged at the work overalls she currently wore. “I’m normally in a kimono-type outfit or something like this.”
She recalled the wardrobes she had bought and wanted to go grab one of them, but felt it best to wait until she was at least clean before touching the fabric. “Do you want me to come with you to the shipyard? I can make the shower quick.” She offered, trying her best to keep things simple for Ryan’s sake.
TheTraveler — 11/06/2021
Ryan walked over to the closet and started to go through the clothes, "don't worry, Ava doesn't wear stuff like this either. She will buy cause she likes it, then bring it home and never touch it again." He pulled out a lovely blue and red dress that screamed wealth and nobility, "see, she bought this a month before we met the others. She paid, um...I think over seven thousand credits for it. Never wore it." he held up the garment for inspection before putting it away."
With his back to her Ryan continued to talk, "my family would have used seven thousand credits to buy food, shoes and normal clothing." He let out a laugh, "don't be silly Amy, of course I want you to come with me." he turned to her with a smile holding an outfit that was less flashy and appeared to be just the right size for Mishka. "How about this," he asked.
TheTraveler — 11/07/2021
(These events take place after the conversation which were part of the Nov 6th Game)
Ryan let out a joyful cry, "hey come look at this." He said calling to Mishka. "Do you see this. This is a wonderful find." He picked up a ship component. "These were very popular in during the Clone Wars, well during this time period for you guys."
He showed her to the component, "these units take power directly from the main reactor and convert it in a power stream that is usable for the shields."
He smiled as he explained, "so the Jupiter One has a much more advanced component to this. But we can make this one work should ours fail."
He handed it to her. "You need to learn an eye for the differ types of technology and how they can work with ours."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/07/2021
Mishka was busy looking over a few small parts she thought might be of use. Having read a few books on engineering and the many components for ships, she knew a little about the pieces that might be needed, but she did not yet have the same eye for it as Ryan did.
Hearing his excitement, she followed him and gladly took the piece he handed her. She tested the weight and looked over it thoroughly, true curiosity in her blue eyes. Learning everything so far and continuing to learn was joyful for the half-Bothan. “I hope I can spot these things as easily as you one day.” She told him. “It would be helpful if I can run for supplies from these places while you do repairs one day.”
Saying these things was just in her nature. Mishka always wanted to be helpful, even if it meant doing all the small stuff for someone, especially those she cared for.
“Is there anything else we can use? I found a few small parts I remember reading up on that might be helpful, but my knowledge is only limited to what I’ve read. Everything else I’m going to learn from you.” She explained with that sweet smile on her face again. Something about Ryan just kept pulling the smile out of her, making it genuine.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/07/2021
Ryan scanned the parts very closely, "very good finds." He picked one up, "we won't need this one for today's repairs, but we can store for the future." He continued to look over the parts, "listen, its is more than just knowing how to repair a ship. Any mindless Jedi can do that. But you have to have a feel for the technology that goes in to our ship. You need to understand what makes it work and more importantly why."
He motioned her to the side, "remember what Tesara said about where we come from." He said in a whisper. He continued, "the Jupiter One was built with some of the most advanced technology that Empire had at their time. Some fifty to sixty years from now. So most tech here is far inferior to what the Jupiter has onboard."
He gave her a smile, "those idiots that just travel aboard her simply doesn't understand this. But you have to. You have to not only master tech of your era, but master the technology of the Jupiter One." He motioned to the parts she found, "and you have an eye for this. That is clear," he gave her a wink.
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/07/2021
Mishka did indeed remember what Tesara had told her and she worried about trying to maintain all the technology of the Jupiter One. At least it seemed easy enough to fix and maintain at the moment, but what if she needed to replace or repair something that could not be fixed?
She hoped that would never be the case.
“I’ll do everything possible so I can help,” She told Ryan as she adjusted the ribbon she was using to tie her hair back. “I have a question to ask you, though. Back in Ava’s room you called me Amy. Why?”
She had felt a pang of frustration at being called the name of another woman, but Mishka understood that the pain must still be fresh and painful. She just wanted him to understand that she had not missed it. Keeping her voice calm and as kind as ever, she hoped he would not be too upset by her question.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/07/2021
Ryan lowered his eyes, "I did," he said honestly not fully realizing what he had done. "I'm sorry about that," there was pain in his voice. "Amy and I spent a lot of time in Ava's room. When we would crash a party, Amy would borrow some of Ava's clothes to wear."
He shrugged, "Ava never cared and Amy looked so, well, sexy in them." His eyes drifted down to the dirt under their feet. "I didn't mean to and you don't deserve that. I'm sorry for any pain that might have caused you."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/07/2021
Stepping over to him, Mishka gently set a hand on his arm. “I’m not mad. I just didn’t understand why.” She told him, squeezing his arm a little. “It’s okay and I…I understand. The situation is very fresh…I’m still having a hard time with the fact that I just buried my sister and survived being...”
Admitting this brought out a strained hitch in her voice. Losing Aneta still stung like having a knife stabbed into her heart and twisted, especially after being raped and beaten the way she had. She wanted to be strong, though - had to be strong. She wanted to be here for her new friends, especially for Ryan. He had been so kind to her from the moment they met, after all.
“It’s okay, Ryan,” She reassured him.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/08/2021
Ryan suddenly felt both guilty and selfish. Despite his best effort, he couldn't hide it on his face either. He looked down as shame crossed his face.
His mind raced as he tried to find the right word to say or action to take. He had become so lost in his own sense of loss, that he had completely forgot about what had happened to her.
"I," he started to say but realized even in that he was being selfish. "I am sorry," he finally realized was all he could say.
He felt like just doubling over as if he had been punched in the gut. Then it hit him.
He raised his eyes to meet her's, "we will get through this together," he said softly and added, "I promise."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/08/2021
"No need to be sorry, Ryan." Mishka enunciated, trying to reassure him that she understood. It was his promise to get through this together that made her heart flutter a little, though. She was quick to stamp down on the rising emotions and nodded to him. “Yes, we can and will get through this.”
Releasing his arm, she kept her eyes on his for a long moment. Something about his gaze kept her in place, kept her from looking away for those short seconds. She could not put an exact emotion on the feelings rising inside her, but she was not about to rush and find out.
Breaking the gaze, she returned her focus to the parts and adjusted her kimono a little to keep it comfortable. The dark red fabric seemed to make her pale skin stand out, almost glow as if she were under moonlight. Her hands fiddled with a little part, something complicated that would come in handy later if need be. “Think this will work for later?” She asked, trying to change the subject.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/08/2021
Ryan felt his guilt only partially melt away, he still felt like an ass for not taking her own most horrific experiences in to consideration. Still, he meant what he said. He would make sure that she got through this, even if he had to carry her.
The thought gave him a hit of laughter and a smile on his face. Just considering how she transitioned from girl in pain to supportive friend, it is more likely she would be carrying him.
He took the piece from her hand. He hadn't said anything, because he didn't want to ruin the moment with another Ryan moment. Turning he picked up a second very similar part. He gazed at the two parts, "see here." He showed her to two parts as he explained. "Can you see how they are nearly identical parts. The untrained eye would see them as the same. But their not."
He showed her small smooth etchings on one of the parts, "This is a sign of a Mon Calamari manufacture. The quality will be very high and the part would be very reliable." He showed her the second part, "this is a knock off. Probably Quarren if I didn't know better." He moved the part around to very similar etchings on the part. "See Quarren understand their Mon Calamari brothers and sisters. Others don't, so they just copy the etchings directly."
He turned to her, "most traders and even junkers can't tell the difference. But if you learn to tell the difference, than that places you in the advantage when it comes to getting the best price for parts. A knock off could fail in a critical moment where a part of quality will serve us well. You have to use a very keen eye on your parts."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/08/2021
Mishka looked over the part and nodded as she took in each and every detail. Her hands gently took the part, fingers touching along it to conform it to memory. Those rust colored ears twitched, rising and falling as she listened to Ryan talk.
“My dad used to always say ‘quality over quantity’ to me.” She chimed with a soft giggle. “I guess I’ll be using that quote a lot now.”
Adjusting the sleeves of her kimono so they were not in the way, she crouched by a few parts and began looking over them. Her head continually tilted to the side like a cute puppy when her curiosity about a piece was perked and she would ask Ryan about it. She went about doing this until they had a good amount of parts that were needed for the Jupiter One.
With a curious glance to Ryan, she smiled. “So, how many parts are we planning to cart back to the ship?” She asked with another giggle. It was obvious she found this work enjoyable.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/08/2021
Ryan continued to shop and pick up more parts. By the time he was finished they had enough parts for the task of repairing the ship and plenty extra. He walked back to Mishka as she asked him her question, "hardly any. We are going to have them delivered."
He held out a circuit board, "I got you a gift. Its a Mandaloran Communication Board." He showed her the circuit board, "you can tell its Mandaloran by the color of the solder and these here." He pointed to a set of resistors, "see here, Mandalorans worship combat. So everything that they put in to their ships have redundancy."
He smiled, "its for you to practice on."
He gathered up the last of the repair parts and paid the bill. "One thing you will learn about working with the saviors of the Galaxy." There was sarcasm dripping from the words, saviors of the Galaxy. "While they are running around doing their thing, we can smuggle in just about anything. The pay is really good. And they find a bunch of things that most of the time, they don't even care about after they found it. So selling that and the smuggling, makes for a pretty happy income."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/09/2021
Mishka took the circuit board and examined it, listening to Ryan talk. That was when he mentioned practice and a dark blush appeared on her face. “Don’t remind me of my first attempt…” She murmured under her breath in embarrassment. All the misses had proven her aim could be greatly improved. She would be sure to use this for practice, that was for sure.
As they made their way back, everything set up to be delivered to the ship, Mishka thought about all they had talked over. Her body gave a slight ache at the vague memory of her assault. The details were still rather fuzzy, her mind’s way of protecting itself. At least that’s how she saw it and she was glad she could not remember everything.
She was scared to know what all had happened to her.
Looking to Ryan, she remembered what he had told her while they took care of Aneta’s body and felt horrible for the man. He had suffered and had no one to turn to for help. It was why she wanted to be there for him now, let him know that he was not alone this time. A smile crossed her face at being able to help and she hoped to keep helping.
“Why do you call them ‘saviors of the Galaxy’, Ryan?” She inquired as she let her hand absently reach up and fiddle with the necklace she always wore. The colors seemed to shimmer, reflecting whatever light was around in an elegant manner. Her fingers rubbed over it, an anxious act for sure.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/09/2021
Ryan walked along side Mishka and watched her play with her neckless. He wondered what she was thinking or what she was going through. He gazed at her from the side of his eye, the light of the setting sun was caught in her fur. The light gave her a glow that made her look like an angel.
He laughed at her question, "are you kidding!?" He had to pause to let the laughter subside. "Those guys run off everywhere to chase 'Evil' wherever they happen to find it. Or should I say call it so."
"Ava is the only one not caught up in the 'Savior' complex. She just wants to rebuild her home here in this galaxy," he explained. "I think she is the only honest one among the entire group. She knows what she wants," he paused to smile and let a hint of laughter slip from his lips.
"You know, she wasn't always like that. She wanted to be a free spirit and just do her own thing. But then when we got here, she realized she wasn't going to make it home ever again. So she decided to make this place home for her."
He thought for a moment as he got a bit more nervous. He wasn't sure if it would be okay. But he knew he wanted to. He drew in a deep breath and decided to be brave. As they continued to walk, he reached down and took her hand as he continued to walk.
Mishka Winlat — 11/09/2021
It took Mishka a moment to comprehend what Ryan meant about Ava, but the dots quickly connected and she understood. “It must be painful knowing you can’t go back to your homes.” She admitted, her ears dropping back a little with sadness for him and the others. “I wouldn’t wish anyone to be forced away from their home forever.”
“I wonder if I’ll ever feel that way…want to settle and stay in one place. I left home to find Aneta, but deep down I know I left because I just wanted to explore. Everything that happened should deter me from wanting to continue, but it…” She let the words fade as Ryan’s hand slipped around hers.
It was so unexpected, something she had secretly wanted, but to have him taking her hand without warning was exactly what it seemed.
Surprising.
Glancing to him, Mishka could not stop the blush that crossed her face as they continued their return walk to the Jupiter One. Her fingers gently curled and held his hand back.

Ryan felt her finger curling around his and his heart jumped, nearly beating out his his chest. 'Did she hear my own heart beat,' he wondered silently as his heartbeat seemed to be like a drum beating in his head.
Ryan saw a small deli on the side of an adjacent side road. "You know, we have bee. At repairs for most of the morning and it's not fair that Tesara gets to eat while we work," Ryan mused as they walked. He was trying to be clever, and a smile crossed his lips.
"Want to grab a bite to eat," he suggested motioning to the Deli.

Mishka Winlat — 11/10/2021
Looking to the Deli, Mishka could not stop the sudden growl of her stomach. It had been a while since she had last eaten and that had only been soup. She had not even gotten breakfast in her when all the chaos with that nutty professor began.
“Yes, lets grab something to eat.” She answered with a smile and gently pulled Ryan along toward the Deli.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/10/2021
Ryan led her over to the small little Deli and helped her by pulling out her chair for her. Just as he was taking his seat, a small figured pink skinned female humanoid walked up and pleasantly took their order. She bowed and wondered off with the drink and food order.
Ryan tried to hold down his feelings, "I know you are being strong for me." he said calmly then added, "I want you to know you can always let me be strong for you." He robbed the back of his head, "loosing Amy was really hard," he said in a soft ton. "I get it," once more he offered his heads to her by reaching out across the table for her. He stopped just over half way. "I want you to be okay. Not just for me, but because you are."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/10/2021
Mishka let her own hands slide across the table to meet him at that halfway point and smiled. “I understand,” She said in a very soft tone, eyes glancing toward their hands that had not yet touched again. “I just feel the need to be strong. Both my parents and my sister are gone. I can’t let what happened to me keep me from moving forward.” A pained looked entered her eyes as she thought of what had been done to her, of waking up in all that pain before Tesara had helped her. “I would never wish that kind of pain on anyone…”
She glanced away as their drinks arrived, ears twitching with worry. There was a few in her eyes brought on by the memories. It was a fear she could not explain since she remembered only fragments of what had actually happened. The only thing she truly recalled from that time was the pain - there had been so much pain.
Her free hand reached up and rubbed at the necklace again. “Thank you, Ryan.” She said as she finally met his gaze. “It means a lot to me that you care.”
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/10/2021
Ryan gave her hand a reassuring squeeze to let her know that she was not alone and among those what supported her. "I can't imagine you wishing anything bad on anyone. But I can tell that look."
He drew in a deep breath, "as you know, I know." He paused for a long moment trying to get his mind and thoughts on track again.
"We don't have to talk about it," he finally said. "I just want you to know, you don't have to be strong. You can be weak, and I will be here to be strong for you."
He smiled to say something else but a new voice interrupted the conversation, "Madam Winlat," The ORA administrator said softly. The red/black skinned Zabrak walked over calmly, he held his cane behind his back. "I hope I am not intruding on anything."
Ryan let his fingers loosen in case Mishka wanted to pull her hand back. "Of course not Administrator," Ryan said not really sure what else to say. He looked to Mishka for any hints or guidance.
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/10/2021
Mishka felt overjoyed at Ryan’s words, but it was short lived. The moment she heard the familiar voice of the ORA Administrator, the half-Bothan felt a chill run down her spine. Not moving her hand, she looked toward the man and noted how he was not actually using the cane this time.
“Hello, sir.” She said as politely as possible. The memory of this man handing over the deed to her home burned in her mind and in the pocket of the kimono she wore. It had become an odd habit to carry the document around. She would read over it again and again, trying to grasp onto why this man had given it to her.
A part of her kept worrying there was a price behind handing it to her.
“Is there something you need?” She inquired, not quite ready to offer him a seat at their table just yet.

TheTraveler — 11/10/2021
The Administrator smiled as he spoke, "My Dear, I hope I don't need anything to be polite." He reached out and pulled out a chair, "do you mind if I join you for a but a moment."
Ryan opened his mouth to speak but the Administrator spoke again, "I promise I won't be long."
He turned back towards to Mishka, "the funeral was nice. I hope you didn't mind that had asked the Militia to provide an Honor Guard for your sister." He sighed heavily, "I am sure your parents would have agreed.."
He shifted a bit in the chair, "I want you to know that your people are here for you." He sighed heavily, "how are you holding up, My Dear."

Mishka Winlat — 11/11/2021
Great discomfort spilled down into Mishka’s gut when the Administrator invited himself to sit at the table. A few choice words swam through her mind, but being the kind young woman she was, the half-Bothan merely forced a smile. “I’m doing better than I expected to be.” She admitted honestly. “I have wonderful people in my life that make it possible to work through.” Her blue eyes went to Ryan when she said this, flickering toward him in quick succession.
A part of her really did not wish to speak about her sister’s funeral. It had been a painful matter, even with Tesara there by her side, but she was coping thanks to her and Ryan.
“I don’t mind,” Mishka finally said in response to the mention of the Militia. She had been, after all, too busy facing the burial. Normally, when not so emotional, she would have noticed such things, but at the time the tears had been blurring her to everything. Saying goodbye again had been just as painful as the first time.
After a long moment to see if he had anything else to say, Mishka spoke up again. “How are you doing, sir?” She asked, trying to get the subject off herself.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/11/2021
He gave her a reassuring nod as she spoke of copping. "I am glad to hear this. And it is so very important that you have the support of those around you to help you through times like this."
He continued to listen respectfully as Mishka continued to speak. It was her question which drew surprise from him.
"I had expected this assignment to be much more than it turned out to be. The singular disappointment was the death of your parents."
He leaned back slightly as he rested his cane on his lap, "I don't think your fellow locals like me. Though I am sure it has nothing to do with Magistrate Kevens. I have caught him a number of times spreading lies about me."
He reached up and rubbed his chin, "I was told I should silence him, but that isn't how I want our relationship here. We are meant to be friends, not rivals."
Ryan leaned forward, "excuse me for asking Administrator, where are you from?"
He laughed as he moved his hand back to his lap, "it was bound to come up. I was born and raised on Dathomir."
Ryan's eye went wide, "so you are a....."
Once more the red and black skinned Zabrak laughed, "no no, only the females become witches."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/11/2021
Mishka merely listened to them talk, unsure how to respond to all of this. “I’m…” She began, but let the words teeter off. “The death of my parents is…it was unexpected.” An audible gulp escaped her as she thought about the wreck. To this day she still found it odd how she was the only lucky survivor of that.
That was when Ryan asked his question and she looked to the Administrator, paying attention to his words and actions. “Uhm…witches?” She asked with a worried expression on her face. Her brain tried to search through all the books she had read, all the information that constantly moved around in her brain. She could not recall anything about this.

He smiled and nodded, "consider them no different then those who follow the Angel, or the Church of the Force, or any other religion."
There were eyes watching him from across the small cafe'. He tried to not give notice of them, but both Mishka and Ryan noticed his unease at those who were gocking at him.
"I know there are those out in these parts who have with own views, but most are based off of lies, myths and exaggerations," he explained.
He then laughed, trying to dispell his own unease. "My mother certainly did not dance around fires naked and soaked in the blood of our beings."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/11/2021
“Oh, I…I didn’t think…I’m sorry.” Mishka stumbled over her words at the mention of dancing naked and being soaked in blood. “I meant, well…it’s just not a word I’m used to hearing.” Her blue eyes glanced toward the ones watching them, toward those gawking at the Administrator. “Is there anything else you wish to talk about? You seem a bit…uneasy.”
Keeping as calm a composure as possible, she tried not to be bothered by the stares.
TheTraveler — 11/11/2021
He smiled, "many people don't, its okay. Did you know before you and your sister was born, your father worked on Dathomir"
He laughed, "its how my family and him became so close. Sadly I never met the man personally, though we had many involved conversations over the holonet."
Then as if her final words sank in, "oh," he said frowning. "No, I guess not. I didn't mean to interrupt." He slowly started to raise from his chair.
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/12/2021
“I didn’t mean any offense. It was just a surprise to have you here…” Mishka interjected before the Administrator could leave. “I just…I never knew of you or of my father’s work on Dathomir. I’m sure it’s no surprise since I was not born yet, but it’s still surprising. Not even mom mentioned it.”
She glanced to Ryan with a little worry, fearing she might have insulted this man. “Was there anything else you wanted to say? I mean, we’ll probably be here for another day or so. I’m not sure. Maybe we can meet and talk if you need to?” It was the only thing she could think of to make up for this.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/13/2021
The Zabrak frowned, "its not you, My Dear. Those of my kind, um, well more of where I am from tend to not be received very well. Many still remember the Dathomiry revolt of some hundred years ago."
Ryan tilted his head in surprise, "um, so, um" he said then motioned to Mishka and himself, "we have been traveling for some time and well didn't have access to the latest books." Ryan laughed, "can you tell us of what happened and why your people are frowned upon?"
The Administrator laughed, "I guess for me, it's more prevalent that for others." He leaned back an got comfortable once more. "It started about a hundred and fifty years ago when Dathomir was forced colonized by the Wylyn Corporation. They relocated some twenty thousand low security inmates, their guards, and the families of the guards to a massive complex on Dathomir."
He turned and gave Mishka a nod, "your family was part of that original colonization. A name that would stand in Dathomir history as a symbol of nobility. I suspect though personally unsure why, this might be the reason why you never heard of your father's actions."
He turned back to Ryan, "the colony and those of Dathomir normally didn't mix due to the location of the complex. However Wylyn then started construction on a second facility. One that wasn't approved by Dathomir or the Republic. That was when tensions started to grow. Wylyn attempted to ease tensions by hiring locals for the construction. Wages were crap, and the working and living conditions were almost hellish."
He lowered his head in disappointment, "even to this day no one knows what actually trigged it. There was an explosion that killed several dozen workers. Those of Dathomir claimed negligence Wylyn claimed local sabotage."
He turned to Mishka, what happened next was our fault. A band of local males led by a clan of witches took hostages and issues demands for Wylyn to leave Dathomir." He paused to think then resumed, "your great grandfather was ordered to orbital bombard major settlements and city centers until the terrorists released their hostages. To the disgrace of Wylyn, not only did he refuse, he alerted the Jedi and the Republic of the orders. When his fellow offices attempted to seize control and carry out the order, the man gave his life to deny them. Sadly it wasn't enough to stop the destruction of Quancy, a city of nearly three hundred thousand. But it was enough to buy time for a Jedi task force to arrive and seize control of the situation and stop further destruction."
He gave Mishka a humble nod, "there is not a Dathomir alive today who doesn't owe the Winlat family a debt."
Wylyn's powerful RP department twisted the Dathomir Revolt in to the image it is today. The deaths, the suffering and even the death of Commander Winlat were all laid at our feet. Witches and their clans were hunted down by Bounty Hunters and slaughtered." He motioned to the on lookers and their gaze, "and most Dathomir are greeted with fear and distrust."
"Only recently has the recorded started to be set straight," he explained. "A personal journal belonging to Commander Winlat was delivered to our Clan Elders." His smiled confirmed what Mishka was already thinking, as to who made such a sacrifice for these people. With an understanding nod, he continued. "Though the wider galaxy may not care of the truth, our own children now have the proof of what really happened during those fateful months. Guilt removed and honor restored. And a debt to your family deepened."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/13/2021
Mishka took all of this information in, her mind attempting to wrap around it all. Her family had done all of that? Neither of her parents had mentioned it over the years to her or Aneta. Not as far as she was aware anyway. She almost could not believe it, but the proof was sitting there in front of her and Ryan.
"I never knew my family did such a thing." She admitted honestly. "My father would mention visiting other planets as I grew older, even spoke of going to Dathomir, but he never mentioned any of this. It's a lot to take in."
That was no lie. To think there was someone indebted to her family was a huge surprise and she was too shocked to think anything else of it. She was overjoyed that her family had helped others, though. It was just more proof to back up her natural instinct to help everyone around her.
"I understand your reasoning, but I don't feel like you owe me anything, sir." Mishka spoke up in a soft and kind voice. "You've already given me back my home. Though, I have to admit, I don't intend to stay here so I will have to find someone who can make it a cozy home for themselves."
Feeling a bit awkward for saying as such, she glanced down at her drink and waited to see what the Administrator would do.

He smiled and nodded, "spoken like a true noble. Among the Witches, there is a saying. She who gives to her family and friends is a good person, she who gives openly to her clan and people will live forever in their hearts."
He smiled, "your great grandfather is such a person. One day, I will show you where his name resides. A place of great honor among the Dathomiry."
He frowned once more as she mentioned not using the house, "well then. If you find yourself in need, you need but ask."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/13/2021
Mishka grimaced and glanced at Ryan as her hands fell below the table to tap her nails against her legs nervously. It was an anxious act that helped her focus. “I mean no disrespect, sir. If you wish for me to keep the house, I will. It can be a place to stay any time I return for visits.” She explained in a calm tone. “It would be interesting to see where my great grandfather’s name is.”
It felt odd to keep the house, a place she had not been to since her parents died.

((OOC: There is your post, sir. Now chill lol))

The Zabrak's eye went wide with surprise, "please forgive me, that was not my intention. I meant no disrespect to you. I had expected that the jester would have been, um," he stumbled over his words slightly, "better received. Had I known it wasn't that important to you, I would have attempted to find another way to show you the respect that you deserve."
He laughed slightly, "please take no offense. It would appear that I have the track record of misunderstanding the customs of your fine people. Which is funny cause the ORA sent me here to help bridge the gap between them and the rest of the ORA."
Ryan tilted his head, "wait, your not in charge?"
The Zabrak shook his head, "no, think of me more as an Ambassador."
Ryan laughed, "well that isn't the impress I have heard or had of you."
The Administrator nodded, "a common misunderstanding. I am in charge of handing the everyday duties of the world, but the local Governor still maintains general authority. There are a few areas I can and have overridden him on. Which sadly has created bad blood between us."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/13/2021
Mishka tilted her head to the side as her ears twitched and perked up slightly. “Well, most don’t have a good view of the ORA in general, sir. You seem to be a kind individual with respect for those that help you.” She explains with a slight smile.
She thought for a long moment, trying to figure out what else to say. Her little claws began to drag along her legs with nervousness. “Perhaps they just haven’t gotten to know you personally. I know it is difficult to do that, though, since the people here are rather wary of you.” She explained.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/13/2021
He nodded, "most of the perception of the ORA has been tainted by Coruscant's propaganda. The funny truth is, the ORA was invited here during time of crisis. A crisis which we helped resolve. There was a coming food shortage, nine transports later, the crisis was resolved."
"I take after the ORA in general. We would have and offered to help without requiring a membership. The fact that the leaders of this world requested membership, we thought meant that they would be more open minded to who the ORA is," he explained.
"I personally feel that if the likes of the Governor would stop trying to tell everyone that we are some evil group bent on taking over this world," he said speaking of his opinion. "I believe relations would be much better. Would you believe that some have gone as far as accusing me of harming some local trouble makers."
Ryan nodded his head, "I have heard of such stories. Care to tell your side?"
The Zabrak shrugged his shoulders, "there isn't much to tell. They vandalized my home, and I reported it to the local Constable. However, I also asked them to not take any drastic action towards those responsible. It was nothing serious, and a few coats of paint removed the vandalism."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/15/2021
“I suppose they just think it’s odd that right after your home was vandalized, those troublemakers disappeared. I don’t believe it was your fault.” Mishka admitted as her ears fell slightly. “I feel everyone deserves a chance to show who they really are to people before getting judged. They should try to get to know you.”
It was her honest opinion. Mishka had lived her whole life just being kind and loving toward others. It was probably why everyone here always greeted her with kindness. She was not just her father’s daughter, after all. This half-Bothan was someone who just wanted to help others.
“Is there anything else you can tell me about my father’s work with you?” She asked.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/15/2021
He nodded and smiled regarding her statement about getting to know people, "you truly do take after your father."
"Its a shame truthfully that many here see me and automatically assume I am guilty of some horrible thing they just haven't discovered yet." Playfully he held up a finger, "but you just wait, my guilt will be prove." He laughed at the statement.
Once more he nodded, "my mother worked closely with him. I was but a teenager at the time." There was a hint of shame in his voice as he spoke, "more interested in girls than what was really going on."
He tilted his head and smiled, "I can say this, while staying at my home, he and my mother would spend many long nights working on things. For me, I would come home late in to the evening and see them at the table with other Clan leaders. Papers and maps scattered about."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/15/2021
“I see,” Mishka said with a smile. “Father has always been a hard worker.” Taking a sip of her water that she got, the brunette tried to think of anything else to ask, but considering this man was but a teenager at the time, she could not think of anything he might know.
“I do hope your stay here becomes less hostile, sir.” She continued. Her mind was a cacophony of thoughts, of things she should ask, but couldn’t. The more they talked about him, the more she came to miss her family. Fighting back the emotions that were trying to bubble up, she returned her gaze to Ryan. “Maybe we should eat our food before it gets cold?” She asked and looked at the Administrator. “Do you need something to eat?”
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/15/2021
Not realizing that the food had been brought to the table, the Administrator steadied his cane, "please forgive me." He rose to his feet, "you have been more than kind. I am sorry for delaying your meal." He bowed to Mishka, "as always," he said with a smile, "taobh a-staigh d ’fhiachan." On that, he turned and walked away.
Ryan watched the man leave before turning to Mishka, "I would be careful believing all of what he said." Ryan picked up his spoon and took a sip of his soup. "For as long as I have been around Ava and her Corporate buddy's, I have learned one thing. They may hate each other to the core, but they would never put another Corporation in danger, even just by means of bad publicity."
He continued to take in his soup, "your father was a Corporate man. If what that man says is true, then your father would have committed the greatest sin." Ryan shook his head, "I just can't see it."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/15/2021
Once the Administrator was gone, Mishka finally let out a deep breath and brushed her hair back. “That man scares me, Ryan.” She admitted, staring at her own food for a long moment. “Even Tesara seemed unsettled when he gave me the deed to my house.” Forcing herself to take a bite of her food, she glanced toward the people that had been staring earlier.
“Do you think he wants something, Ryan?” She asked.
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 11/15/2021
Ryan nodded, "those people are always looking for something. Their world is a crap bucket, and that is saying it nicely." Ryan frowned, "I remember on Baklid there was a smell community of them just within the boundaries of Candyland. They were known for being the worse of the worse. Some of the things I heard about them from other streetrats, well it wasn't pretty."
He continued to eat, "Personally, I don't think I would believe a word that man said." He shrugged, "that is just me though." He smiled at Mishka, "you, I think are too nice and he wove a nice story for you."
@Mishka Winlat
Mishka Winlat — 11/15/2021
Heat rose up to Mishka’s face, coating her cheeks in a soft pink. “I…I just don’t think it’s right to judge people simply by rumors alone. Though, if he is lying, we will find out eventually, I’m sure.” She pulled out the deed to her old house from a fold in her kimono top and gazed down at it. “I should just sell it. I don’t want to owe that man anything…”
She turned her gaze to Ryan, the blush still in place. “I don’t really know what he would want from me. I wasn’t involved in my father’s work. Mother never really spoke about it, either.” She spoke softly, hands returning to her lap where her claws gently began to drag along the top of her legs out of nervousness.
@TheTraveler

"Rumors are always founded in truth," he admitted, "but you are right. And I will try not to judge the man." He watched her gaze down at the deed. His heart sank as he watched her. They weight was heavy on her heart. It was her family home, and the fear was clearly taking its toll on her.
He reached across the table, "let me" he said placing a finger on the deed. If she allowed him to take it, he would. If not he would pull his finger back. "I will take care of this so you don't owe anyone anything. I will even make sure he gets his money back." He smiled, "that way your heart will be free from fear."

Mishka lifted her fingers off the deed, her fingers brushing against Ryan’s as she did so. Keeping her gaze on him, she asked, “Are you sure? I mean, it’s not your responsibility.” Her gaze turned away again as she tried to think of what else to say. This man was constantly being kind to her and she had no clue how to respond to it half the time.
Brushing back her hair again, she began to fidget with the bow of her kimono.
