Outside of the City of Wiedergeburt
Independent world of New Earth
Despite the fears, the approach to New Earth was uneventful. This didn’t stop Sho Sho Tetsuhara from making sure that everyone knew that the transport was protected. Her fighters moved in formation as the transport made its final approach over the Capital city of Wiedergeburt. Even from this altitude, the scares of occupation could easily be seen. Only a few months ago, the wounds from the occupation still run deep.
As the transport turned and started its approach to Conceptopolis Spaceport, the escorting fighters moved back to allow the dropship to make its landing. Unlike the capital city, the beauty of this spaceport was not lost during the occupation. Conceptopolis Spaceport has been a crown jewel of New Earth's reconstruction that followed the Civil War. A joint venture between NAIS, Quantum Tech, Federated Commonwealth and the New Earth Government. Conceptopolis is located only 59 kilometers south, southwest of the Wiedergeburt.
Designed by the famous Federated Sun's artist and architect Sir Philip Quin Merritt. With its high use of blast resistant glass and massive vaulted ceilings the spaceport is one of the most open and spacious center in the region. The center boasts some of the most advanced tracking and approach controls available to a civilian spaceport. It took nearly ten years to plan and build. Not only does Conceptopolis link New Earth to the rest of the stellar region, six levels of underground transit lines link the entire continent of Sagittarius. This makes Conceptopolis a hub of commerce and travel for the entire world of New Earth.
As the dropship started to make its landing, the rain fell. Across the southern continent of Sagittarius, temperatures slipped as winter rains started to fall. With winter slowly coming, a lone dropship continued its landing at Conceptopolis. Within moments of landing, a VTOL with the word CyberDrone across its body flew in low towards the dropship. This armed VTOL moved without hostilities towards the dropship. It turned and landed next to the larger dropship.
As per plan, the Duchess’ group disembarked the dropship and boarded the VTOL. There, the Duchess’ personal bodyguards are joined by a group of guards from CyberDrone. The only difference between the two groups is the unit patches. Three more units of fighters joined the over-watch of the Duchess group as the VTOL took off from Conceptopolis and headed towards the Capital.
As the VTOL flew, Colonel Jones explained that when the invasion first started the Capital fell within days. If it were not for the Death’s Brigade, that the President of New Earth would have been captured by the Lyrans. It was after that battle that a Lyran snipper found their LZ while the Brigade was fighting to rescue the President and his bodyguard unit. It would be with great regret, the Colonel explained that General Death gave the order to abandoned the Capital in the face of overwhelming odds. As the two units retreated to the Brigade’s LZ, a Lyran snipper laid in waiting.
Colonel Jones’ eyes watered as she told the story of how a lone gun shot rang out. The shot hit the beloved General and cut him down before his own troops. One of the most respected men in New Earth’s history had died in the arms of President McGray. While the snipper escaped the Brigade’s revenge, the Lyran’s 1st Alarion Jaegers wouldn’t. Colonel Jones told how the Brigade made vengeance their first priority on the island of Aries. She turned to Adrian and Erik with a grim smile, “General Death’s murder was well paid in Lyran blood. Yet the debt is far from being paid.”
The rain poured down from darkened skies as six ruined Battlemechs stood silently watch over Memorial Park. For as far as the eye can see, small headstones lined graves of warriors who all gave their lives for New Earth. In the heart of the park stood a bronze statue of two warriors stood facing each other. At the base of the statue, a plaque reads, ‘'With communities and families no longer divided, let us never forget that it is what we have in common that give us the strength to build tomorrow. Let us never forget that we are one people, one community, and one world.’
Today, fifteen LAM’s have joined the six sentries that line the park. The LAM’s belonged to Delta Cluster’s Recon Trinary of Death’s Brigade. With their weapons’ armed, the LAM stood guarding a lone VTOL which had landed in an open area of the park. High above, fighters under the command of Sho Sho Tetsuhara orbited. Despite the freezing rain, one group braved the cold and the rain to respect one grave.
In the center of the park one lone hooded figure walks slowly towards a headstone. This one was no different than any other headstone except for the dedication on the stone. ‘To the man that gave us our independence. We will forever be in your debt.’
Kimiko walked up to the headstone as those who followed her held back. The rain pour washing the make up from her face as she walked forward on weak knees. She dropped down in to the ice cold mud before the headstone and rested her head on the headstone. As the freezing rain washed over her, Kimiko was in great need of comfort.
For Erik, it was a lone figure in the park that caught his eye. The figure managed to remain outside of the zone of protection set up by the LAM’s and thus avoided drawing attention to himself. The figure wore a long thick coat and a hat to protect his head from the rain. There was something familiar about this figure that Erik couldn’t ignore.
Based on how the figure stood next to a large tree, Erik could tell that the man was not armed. Nor did the man show any threat to the group. He simple pretended to honor a headstone, however Erik knew better. The Erik knew that the figure was here for the Duchess’ group.
