Mitch, I ask former military and am aware of deployment. Just pay us the respect of letting me know that you are getting deployed or otherwise can't post. This will allow me to be informed of any changes and can roll with them.

As for the character, I would suggest that you look closely at characters already in play and pick one of them up. As you learn the game you can tweak him as you see fit. This will allow you to come with limited knowledge of the house universe.
