RE: Welcome to SunCo Lady Forma! [Ava, Astra, and Tesara] (Closed)
Ava Forma — 06/17/2021
Ava nodded her head in agreement " I strongly agree, with my friend here. He does need to be stopped. " wondering who was the high grand master was herself. She hoped the only person she would have to take care of was this prime minister. " Who's been named this high grand Master? Also am wondering if he shares the same views as the prime Minister or are they different? " finally deciding to ask a few questions of her own.
TheTraveler — 06/17/2021
Ms. Pound frowned, "sadly we don't know yet who has replaced High Grand Master Windu. What we do know if that the Jedi have withdrawn nearly all of their forces from the system. And while the Government has picked up some of the slack, it has left a massive void that simply can't be filled unless Argo or ourselves choose to fully commit to the Government's cause. As I have advised Lady Loran, it is simply not in our best interests to do so. However there is more, we have started to pick up traffic of a massive build up of warships and troops under the command of the Outer Rim Alliance. We are unsure of where these new ships and troops are going, but Baklid is a likely target. Should they deploy to Baklid, then our problems escalate as they will side with the Erupans. Such a move might trigger a choice with the Board of Directs on rather to cut our looses and pull out or go all in to protect our financial interests here."
Ms. Eady rose from her chair, "please allow me to take over." She turned to Ava and bowed, "Lady Forma," then gave respect to Astra and Tesara in kind, "It might be best if we discuss the amount of resources that SunCo has already invested in this world. With the construction of the Refinery, port facilities and infrastructure to support it all, SunCo's investment in Baklid is over three hundred million credits during the last decade. Or an average of about thirty million credits annually. During the last year, our security budget has since doubled to nearly forty five million credits. This doesn't include the construction costs of our new compound here in Delphin. This facility, which opens in two months will host a new spaceport, construction yards, and two new factories. The new facility was targeted to those urban supporters of the Queen in an attempt to bolster support for her and raise her poll numbers with working middle class Delphins."
She tilted her head slightly, "in short, to cut our looses would be a huge problem. By our projections, if SunCo were to deploy its full might and engage the conflict without reservations for a period of two years, the cost would still be less than if we were to abandon this world effective immediately. At the moment, and our current return on investments, SunCo could uphold a full scale engagement for twenty seven months. However, to move beyond that SunCo would be forced to start taking over operations of key sectors like Mining, which Argos currently controls."
She pulled up her data pad, "There are a number of SunCo initiatives which are widely popular on both sides of the conflict. First is our measured approach to the war. The perception that SunCo is only defending its interests has allowed factions on both sides to spend their resources at our facilities." She frowned, "sadly after speaking with both Ms. Pound and Colonel Pacey, this is not sustainable. Our Hospital and staff in Rotterdam has been targeted by street gangs. Though currently the means of attack is just larceny, crimes such as kidnapping and ransom has seen in uptrend as well as more violent crimes against our personal there. There had been six terrorists attacks at our port facilities at Clovale. This is fueling an increase in security costs. Here in Delphin, due to the Prime Ministers ultra nationalistic rhetoric, SunCo has been unofficially labeled as conspiring with the enemy. This has seen a ten to sixteen percent drop in our market shares."
"So while pulling out would be prohibitively costly, doing nothing and allowing the situation to solve its self is also equally prohibitively costly." Ms. Eady gave a bow, "If you have questions," she said softly.
Astra Korraay — 06/17/2021
Astra just started blanckly at the women all she seamed to car about was credits.
Ava Forma — 06/17/2021
Ava shook her head " No questions but I have a idea I would like to present. It's called the Ava Forma Scholarship Fund. This Scholarship will be designed to allow impoverished children living in Europa's rural provenances, to have access to the best education system on planet." As she softly spoke. After projecting her voice loud enough where everyone could hear her but reframed from shouting.
" Students who qualify, will be transferred from Europa and placed with a host family, after passing enhanced background and security checks in Austerity. There the Scholarship Children will be enrolled in the best tiered schools, enrolled in community building programs and encouraged to take part in sporting activities. " taking a moment to take a breath before she continued.
" After primary education, the children can reapply to continue their education to secondary schools and universities. At anytime, the children can terminate their Scholarship and return home. The fund allows for one annual trip back home for the holidays. All other expenses would be paid out of pocket by the child's family. All fees and costs will be provided by the fund. Does anyone have any questions about my idea am proposing? "
Tesara Anerin — 06/17/2021
Tesara smiled to herself, pleased with Ava’s suggestions but preparing herself for a shocked response from the executives. She watched and waited.
TheTraveler — 06/17/2021
Ms. Eady nods, "Lady Loran had suggested the concept. It appears that conversation was more in depth with you. Something like that is do able. We can shift funds from the medical outreach programs across Europa to fund the scholarship program. By moving them to Delphin, security would be much more cost effective."
Doctor Hartley stood up, "the scholarship idea would work wonders on improving the public image of SunCo as well has helping weed out toxic ideologies of these children. We could help shape the next generation in to one that is more open to peaceful paths rather than the current extremest views. However I would suggest bringing in children from Delphins as well. This way we can show that we are not favoring one side or the other while at the same time slowly changing the direction of both cultures to one where they can live with each other."
Astra Korraay — 06/17/2021
Astra liked the idea but shook her head. " it's very likely that both sides would view that as a form of indoctrination what if you used the money to improve the school systems in those areas. The program may be better received then" Astra said. She was thinking back to Reines reaction to her the other day.
TheTraveler — 06/17/2021
Ms. Eady, "while pouring money in to the local school systems is a noble idea. There are two problems. One we would have no control over how the funds are used or if they would even go to ensuring our goals. Speaking purely factual, both sides would be right. We are using our resources to indoctrinate their children in to a less violent way of life."
Doctor Hartley smiled, "may be I can be of help on this," he said softly. "There are other ways to bring peace than by armed conflict. You, yourself requested this. While much slower than Ms. Pound's suggestion of killing off some more radicals on both sides, this idea would change the general fundamentals of how both sides see their place in the world."
Ms. Eady turned back to Astra, "giving local populations money has never solved anything. Unless it is chaos we wish to sow. In Baklid's case, that is not our stated goal." She then turned to Ava and tilted her head in question, "correct?"
Astra Korraay — 06/17/2021
Astra nodded she understood. But she worried about how the people would react.
Tesara Anerin — 06/17/2021
Tesara shifted in her seat and cleared her throat, hoping she wouldn't get glared at. "There is an issue with this idea which is the very heart of how these people operate and what they believe. I have had interactions with a family whose father was the absolutely head of the house, and nothing was said or done without his approval. His daughter dared go against his wishes, and there was a bitter exchange between them which resulted in him basically disowning her and declaring her dead. Once he had done this, she was by all intents and purposes, truly dead to her family and the entire tribe. Even if she stood before them, speaking, they would pretend as if she was invisible. Asking for these people to send their children to a school away from their village will likely be met with scorn and denial. These people live and breathe by their place in the tribe. If your grandparents and parents were farmers, so you shall be as well. There is no deviation to this. And there is the issue of their religious beliefs as well. These people are deeply spiritual and believe in the Angel and her guardians. Much of what they do is connected to her and what they believe. This is true across much of Europa, with slight changes here and there, but this is what you will encounter in these villages."
TheTraveler — 06/17/2021
Finally Mr. Watterson, "I realize I have not been called but I feel my own expertise here will be helpful. Yes, MY people have backward ways. Had I not been saved from them, I would have grown up a farmer's daughter, been forced to marry despite my feelings, been forced to produce a family. All in the name of bringing honor to my Clan, my Tribe and my people. This is a barbaric system that oppresses the youth of my word." He turned to Tesara and nodded to her, "you speak the truth. But that doesn't me we don't try." He then turns to Ms. Eady, "I understand the cost, however if we look at Argos' latest venture with this singer," he checked his datapad, "Alizee, the girl has become widely popular in just a few days. There is even rumor that Argos has entered in to negotiations with Stala Entertainment to sign the girl to a multi-year contract."
He turned back to Tesara, "yes there will be stiff resistance. But the alternative is that we side with the Government and wage a war of annihilation against my own people."
He paused a moment to let it sink in before turning to Ava, "Lady Forma, I have sworn my loyalty to SunCo and I will follow your commandments to the letter. But I can't implore you enough that such a move will see all things of my people relegated to the pages of history. This is an option that can work if we just give it time and the right resources."
Astra Korraay — 06/18/2021
" Your people's culture need not only exist in the pages of a history book. There have to be ways to preserve the best part of your culture" Astra said smiling gently at him.
Ava Forma — 06/18/2021
Ava listened to Ms. Eady suggestion with both cultures going to the school it could eventually put aside both people's differences or show both sides that the possibility of them working together was possible. " I think that's a wonderful idea to bring in the children from Delphins as well. Thud could also be away to slowly mend both sides or show they can work together. Like you said where they become one and learn to live with each other. " as she agreed. " correct that is not the stated goal " she answered after listening to Ms. Eady. As she listened to Tesara and Mr. Watterson speak. " agree Mr. Watterson. " as she lean back gathering her thoughts. " I would like to call on Ms Eady for your report. " wanting to hear thire input on what they see what's going on, in Baklid.
TheTraveler — 06/19/2021
Ms. Eady frowned, "madam I have given my report. Is there something more you wish to know."
Doctor Hartley spoke up, "I believe that Lady Forma is seeking more information as to what interests does SunCo have on this world. Maybe a bit of information from Watterson could clear the air."
Both of them took their seats as Mr. Watterson stood up and gave a smile, "Lady Forma, Baklid like many other star systems has a vast wealth in both natural and cultural resources. There are over a dozen active mining colonies with the largest being on Baklid two. Harvesting the Hydrogen from the Gas Giant, Baklid its self is also a large operation. However, what Baklid VI holds that very few other worlds hold is its environmental conditions. For over a hundred years, SunCo has been searching for a world that would allow for the expansion of our Ewok farming."
He brought up an image of a Ewok without any clothing or garb, "these fury little creatures are a gold mine unto themselves. Ever since their meat was brought back to the Republic some five hundred years ago, it's value has only increased. Grade Two and Three meats," he paused then turned to Ava, "those that are grown in controlled conditions." he turned back to the rest of them. "Grade Three can sell for two to three credits an ounce, where Grade two can sell for ten times that amount," he activated a holo-image of the Ewok without skin or meat. "Our scientists have spent over a century studying these little gold mines. Sadly the relationship between these creatures and their natural environment has proven to be rather complex. Several farms have failed with the lost of the entire herd. Shipping the creatures alive from their native home to their locations of consumption has proven to be deadly to our costumers. Shipping the prepared meat in carbonate, as we currently do, is expensive."
He gave a nod, "so after searching the galaxy, a few worlds were identified as potential farm sites. However these worlds, while successful in their goals, are still far from hyperspace lanes and thus has not seen any noticeable drop in the costs of shipping the meat. Baklid Six however is a prefect candidate world for a Ewok Farm. Our test facility in Europa has proven this. We are currently growing our second generation Baklid raised Ewoks, with the first generation already being prepared for export back to the Core. To our surprise, the first generation Ewoks grew much more healthier than on other farms. It is expected that the first shipment of the test site will cover the site's construction costs as well as the three year operations costs of the facility. If this trend holds, than the second generation will eliminate all set up costs for the facility and it will start to turn a profit. Thanks to Baklid's close proximity to two major Hyperspace Lanes, this world could could see massive economic growth thanks to Ewok trade. That would be five years before any other off-world Ewok Farm."
He bowed his head in respect, "Lady Forma, what we see here on Baklid is truly a gold-mine that can't be matched by anything else this world has to offer. And it will only be a matter of time before our competitors realize the value of this world. If we don't secure control over the Government, put an end to this civil war, and calm down these fires, Baklid and its wealth could slip through our fingers. And let us not forget the economic social disaster that hit Curiday Three. We need to be the ones in control here."
