RE: Upper Five (Ship's Forward Lounge)
Stardate: 53834.05
USS Thunderchild, NCC-63549
Deck 5, The Lounge
Upper Five
Commander Bonham, Lt Jr Noonia, Ensign Townsend, Ensign Skytower
Ensign Townsend shifted his eyes towards the table and took in a deep breath as he thought of his approach to the situation. "Yeah" he said softly, "you are probably right." He lifted his head back towards her but didn't make eye contact this time, "the layout of the ship is pretty much the same as all other Akira Classes minus a few changes on the Flight Deck and Hanger Deck" he added with a hint of defeat in his voice. His voiced trailed off as he focused his attention on the conversation between Commander Bonham and Lieutenant Noonia.
Commander Bonham listened to Lieutenant Noonia's statements very closely. "The word had come to me through" he said then paused, "unofficial channels" he finished. He wanted to make sure that there was a reason why he had chosen to speak to the young Lieutenant like this. After all the ranting of one junior officer in security was enough to catch anyone's attention.
"Lieutenant, I agree with all that you have said about the two versions of the same battle. Historical battle data does show how events unfold. And random generator can reflect how each command decision has been made can snowball. However anyone can create a holo-simulation about past battles with randomizing algorithms. To take a battle and twist it to show new possible outcomes is not why we study battles of the past. What I am looking for Lieutenant is something else. Let me put my question like this. As a commander, you can only be prepare for any given situation by so much. Consider the battle in question. If you were the commander of the Thunderchild during that battle, would you have attempted to rescue the flight crews or not. Please Lieutenant explain your reasons behind your command decision."
It was clear that Commander Bonham was digging for something. He was probing the subject in a clear and decisive way. What he was looking for however was as much anyone's guess. The conversation has already drawn the attention of the crew members at nearby tables. Everyone had pretty much heard of Lieutenant Noonia's holo-simuation and more importantly how Ensign Habachi had 'smoked it'. The young arrogant Ensign made a point about letting as many people know as possible. Both in showing off the skill of his friend Lieutenant Noonia and the lack of skill of Commander Bonham. For the moment, a dozen eyes were on Lieutenant Noonia as they all waited for his answer.
