Chapter Two: A Whole Old World
01-28-2016, 08:14 PM,
RE: Chapter Two: A Whole Old World
In the Medical Bay, the doctor nodded as he motioned for the Nurse to leave and follow through with her offer.

As the Nurse rushed from the room, the Doctor turned back to Thorchan, "Captain Thorchan, our ship picked up your automated distress signal. That was a few days ago. We worked hard to save as many as we could. There were a number of escape pods along with your shuttle. All were lifeless, you owe your survival to Sho Sho Tetsuhara. She led the rescue of you and your friends. The entire area was filled with debris and made the rescue nearly impossible."

He paused and looked over at a large locker door, "there were some of your group we couldn't save. I am sorry but our medical bay is very limited in its resources and this is my nurses first official mission after school. We were ill-prepared for the crisis" there was a deep sense of regret in the Doctor's voice as he spoke. The kind of regret that couldn't be faked.

He cleared his throat as he turned back to Thorchan, "It has been touch and go with some of you while others seemed to bounce back easily. You regained consciousness for a short period of time. However against my recommendation, Major Tetsuhara pressed too hard in his questions and sent you back in to relapse. For a short period of time you were unconsciousness. I thought I lost you, but I was able to stabilize you." He paused for a moment before continuing.

"However one of your group. The young teen that works for Comstar," he paused to make sure that Thorchan was understanding who he was talking about. "Her sight will most likely not return. The damage to her nervous system was just too extensive. The fact that she is still alive is a miracle unto its self. But that life came at a cost to her. The more I steady her charts and the results of what limited tests we can do here, the more I am certain that her sight will not return. I fear that she is denial this her situation. Though I am not a specialist within that field. Speaking as a professional, I suggest that she needs support and understanding."

Eric nodded over to the mess. "Right over there, just explain how you were sent here by the doctor and that you were rescued from a pod, shouldn't be too much trouble." Going back to eating he stayed quiet not really paying much mind to what Jake said save to make a short comment. "Just don't get too excitable Jake." He took another spoonful and slurped it down, looking contemplatively off into the distance, his hand resting protectively over his pocket.

RE: Chapter Two: A Whole Old World
(OOC: Okay so this post was created between Suki and myself via PM. We are making one post for the ease of reading. Consider the post as part of a conversation between two characters.)

At Alice’s revelation, Suki’s mouth hung open in surprise. Lost for words, Suki allowed Alice to lead her towards the serving line. As the pair got in line to get their food Suki finally asked, “so you were born in Clan space? Are you a human just forced to be raised there?”

Alice shook her head, “no my family was actually from the Clan world of Ironhold. They moved from Ironhold after the situation between the Science caste and the Warrior caste became hostile. Shortly after I was born and my mother was killed, my father took me and fled Clan space. We settled on Tharkad, where I was raised.”

Suki listened and dropped her head, “so Clan’s are not alien?”

Alice shook her head, “no. But their culture can be alien to many.”

“So do you think we should get the others food also?” Suki added. Then she nodded wanting to ask another question. “ah…..so you are human?”

Alice laughed, “yes I am human.” She patted Suki’s hand, “in Clan culture, the warrior and along with some of the Science caste engage in genetic manipulation. They did this in their quest for perfection in the human evolution. To create the prefect warrior or in the case of the Science caste, a better human being.” Alice fell silent then added, “I think that the others will like that. I will make a selection for them.”

Suki blinked as she moved her tray forward down the serving line, “so um….were you manipulated on?”

Alice looked down as if it was a difficult subject, “yes….yes I was part of the genetic program created by the Science caste.” There was a clear sadness in her voice as Alice answered.

Suki didn’t have to see the look on Alice’s face to know that her question caused sadness. “I am sorry.”

Alice made her final selection as she spoke softly, “no, its okay. The choice was made for me. Plus, growing up on Tharkad wasn’t bad. Many teachers and fellow students really treated me much better than I could have ever been treated back within the Clans.” She looked around not realizing that their conversation could be misunderstood. “Maybe we should continue this conversation later.” Alice made sure that there were four trays filled with a healthy selection of food for the party members back at the table.

Suki nodded, “okay.” The pair walked back to the table with two pairs of trays filled with food. Suki helped Alice place the two trays on the table as she looked forward, “we figured we would get you two something to eat also” Suki said speaking to Jake and Adrien. “I hope you enjoy your food.”

Alice made sure that both Jake and Adrien had their own tray of food. “It’s not much but I hope you guys like it” she said helping Suki back in to her chair. “So did we miss anything?”

"Nothing in particular," Jake said, smiling gratefully. "Thanks for the food." He ate slowly, relishing every bite. "So," he said between bites, "Where do we go from here?"

Suki’s first bite filled her mouth with a wonderful sensation. “Oh my god” she said with delight as she took another bite of the fish that dominated her plate. “I have never tasted something so yummy.” With her mouth somewhat filled she asked, “what is this?”.

Suki thought for a moment, “I say we contact Comstar. Whatever the situation, I know they will lend a helping hand.”

Looking at Suki

Don't take it bad but unless we know for sure what is going on, I won't trust anyone, Comstar, my friends or anyone else.

Looking at everyone

Let me have access to a computer like the one in the medical bay and I am sure I will be able to find more info.

Having said that, he turned his attention to his food and then to Suki.

You find this... yummy?
In turn they tested each Clan namesake
In trial against the Ice Hellion's mettle.
Each chased the Ice Hellion, hunting it down.
All failed to match the predator's speed and grace.
Khan Cage smiled and said, "And that is how we shall be."

Alice listened carefully as she thought, “you know, I remember getting on the shuttle. The tech I was sitting next to had a noteputer. As we were in motion, she was playing with something on it. I think it had something to do with sound or music.” Alice thought for a moment, “I remember thinking how strange it was that she was listening music while we were departing the station.”

Alice waited for the statement to sink in before continuing, “I noticed that the tech didn’t survive the event that brought us here. Maybe her noteputer could be helpful to our cause. I am sure it is located in the same case where the rest of our things are.”

RE: Chapter Two: A Whole Old World
As the three pilots were in the mists of finishing their song, it was clear that these three were not professionals. The fact that they were slaughtering the song that they had chosen to sing only reinforced this fact. But that didn’t change the fact that they were having the time of their lives up on that stage. A pair of them were arm and arm as all three were singing their hearts out to a song that predated man’s colonization of the stars.

Near the end of the song, a group of four walked in to the lounge from a side entrance. There was a male in the lead who was heavily armed with a short barreled submachine gun that resembled a P-90. He wore an all-black uniform with combat harness. Directly behind him followed a young female. She wore a simple yet expensive white dress. Behind the first female was a male/female pair moving along the rear flank of the female. It was clear that they were moving in a protection formation of the young female in the middle. The two females in the group both wore simple hijabs.

For Jake, it was the woman in the middle that caught his eye. She was clearly of mixed ethnic origins. From the best he could tell, she was late teens or maybe early twenties. Her slightly browned skill revealed a woman used to the finer things in life. While her eyes betrayed a woman of innocents. Jake couldn’t help but noticed that when she walked in to the room, her appearance seemed to command the attention of everyone. Her confidence was transparent by the way she walked.

While Jake was watching the girl, Eric’s eyes were on the man in front. As the group walked in to the room, he scanned the room like a true professional. A strange behavior for someone who was traveling on their own ship. Eric noticed that the man’s eyes fell directly upon him. In that moment their eyes met as Eric saw the distrust in the man’s eyes. He made a half turn keeping Eric and his party still in eye sight. The man placed a hand on the girl’s shoulder and shook his head. He spoke something but the background noise prevented him from making out the words.

Not willing to be denied, the girl brushed off the hand as she replied with a bit of anger in her eyes. She wanted to be here and her own bodyguards were not going to deny her. Even in this behavior, something could be gained from it. She was not used to having this level of protection around her. While she too saw the party siting at their table, she didn’t consider them the threat that her bodyguards did. Or she simply didn’t care.

Behind her, Adrien saw the two guards bring up the rear. The two in the rear wore the same type of clothing that first man was wearing. The woman in the rear was armed with a P-90 style weapon with a side arm. In her belt was an all metal hand ax in the shape of a hatchet. The man next to her wore no obvious weapons. While the scene was playing out right in front of them, the pair in the back were watching the room carefully for any sudden movements.

Jake stood up cautiously, swallowing nervously and making sure to keep his hands in plain sight. The best way to deal with this, he decided, was to confront it head on. He could tell from the girl's body language that she'd probably intervene were he to be in danger due to his boldness. Trusting this thread of hope, he walked slowly towards the newcomers--but not before muttering to Adrian, Eric, Alice, and Suki, "If you need to do anything, better do it now while they're busy with me."
Having done this, he approached the armed escort and their charge. "Hi, need help with anything?" he asked them, mostly addressing the girl, his eyes locked with hers. "Can't help but notice you all are looking pretty tense..."

Kimoko

As Jake walked up to the group, it was clear that the armed guards each tensed up. “You are not…..” the leader of the body guards started to say but was cut off by the young female. There was a thick accent in his voice. Jake couldn’t put his finger on it, but it was clear that English wasn’t this man’s native language.

“Don’t mind him” the young female said stepping in front of them. “I am Kimiko” she said with a soft voice. Despite her command over the English language, her accent was easy to pick up. However, Jake was able to easily identify it. She spoke with a French accent as she continued, “You were the pilot of the shuttle, Oui?”

Behind her, Jake saw that the body guards were not happy about the current change in situation. Before Jake could speak the leader of the body guards interrupted. “Kimiko, maybe you might enjoy a visit to the bridge before you return for dinner.” It was clear the statement was more meant for Jake than for Kimiko as it was spoken in English. The leader of the body guards asked attempting to be polite but clearly hoping the suggestion would be taken more of a directive.

Kimiko smiled without taking her eyes off of Jake, “No” she said with a thicker than normal French accent. Then effortlessly she switched languages as her head slightly turned towards the three behind her, “alaistila' ealaa tawilat alaintizar balnsbt li.”

The three guards stood in disbelieve at the statement. It was the leader who spoke first, “as you wish Kimiko.” On that, they withdrew to a nearby table. But it was clear that they were watching Kimiko and more importantly Jake, every closely.

She turned to Jake with a smile, “tell me” she said switching back to English and attempted to mask her French accent, “what is your name? or shall I address you as pilot?”

There was something in her voice that was, was familiar to Jake. He couldn’t put his finger on it. Maybe it was just a pleasant case of Déjà vu.
