Answering a call
Answering a Call
Bridge of the Vengeance
In the Fray System
2920 (Five and half months till the Chancellorship Elections)

It was the second week that Jaden had been 'kidnapped' by Trysta. There was still no word from him. Because there was no perceived danger, Duncan ordered the Vengeance back to Fray space. It was a rather boring night on the Vengeance, which was just what Duncan enjoyed. He had been spending much of his free time searching the records about a group of people known only to history as the "Children".  The quiet night gave him plenty of time to reflect on his quest. That wasn't the only thing on his mind. His bother was also resting heavy on his mind. Demaya had been pushing Jaden hard in his studies. As Duncan went over the training records, as he read them he noted how inclusive it was. Duncan found it strange, because she didn't do the same for Auro, or him for that matter.

"Sir" the comm officer said. "You have a secured holocom from the High Council." She looked surprised, "Sir, its Grand Master Dooku."

Duncan nodded, "in the conference room please."

A few minutes later, Duncan was in the conference room waiting for the communication to be linked to the screen. He noted that it was nearly two in the morning back on Coruscant.

"Ah, Duncan" the Grand Master said pleasantly. "How is my former Padawan?"

RE: Answering a call
"I am well Master. Just doing some research during this lull in hostilities." Duncan replied. "And yourself?" he asked the man that was virtually a second father to him.

RE: Answering a call
He reached and moved his hand over his white beard, "I am well. The flowers are in bloom this month. The temple smells of a wide range of flowers and sweets." He smiled as the lights of a sleeping city illuminate his quarters. "The later would be because of Jocasta Nu's granddaughter and her wonderful cookies." He gave a slight smile, "I think she means to fatten me up with them. A not so terrible fate."

RE: Answering a call
Duncan mirrored his former teacher's smile. "So Master what can I do for you? I doubt that you would contact me at this late hour on Coruscant just to tell me about cookies."

RE: Answering a call
There was a soft sigh as his smile faded, "yes my former Padawan, you are right." He shifted in his chair, "before we continue, I need you to do something for me. Use your command override to turn off the security protocols for this communication. What that will do is stop recording of this communication." He fell silent to let the request sink in.

(OCC: by turning off the security protocols, there will be no record of this communication. A red boarder will appear on both ends to alert both sides the protocols are disabled. In doing so it will also make most communication non-secure. However that is not the case for this communication, as this is secured through a separate protocol. This is information available to Duncan at this time.)

Duncan wasn't sure if he liked doing that. But he knew that thanks to the work the crew had done the main operating systems of the ship would not be effected by doing so. He reached over to a nearby panel and typed in his code. He waited until he saw the alert letting him know that he was about to perform an unsafe procedure and he confirmed it. "Go ahead Master."

RE: Answering a call
Grand Master Doily waited for the red alert on his end. Once that occurred he nodded, "Duncan I am sorry for such a request but there can be no record of what I am about to tell you."

He paused a moment before continuing, "the most recent assassination attempt were not authorized by the Grand Council. Or at least the Council as a whole. It has come to my attention that members of this Council had hired an assassin to carry out that assassination in the name of the Jedi. I do not know which member or members of the Council are part of this plot. I mean to discover their identity. In my quest for those behind this, I have discovered another plot in the current works. The Council had been in deep debate over how to deal with Graff and his upper leadership. One such plan was to unleash the Hunters upon them. A plan that I personally haven't endorsed. In was in your reaction, the last time we spoke, that changed my mind."

He drew in another deep breath, "I have discovered that five teams were dispatched with warrants for Graff and his lieutenants." He frowned deeply, "I fear that this will only make the situation worse."

"What is it that you ask of me Master?" Duncan asked. Everything he had been told wasn't good. The Council was always to act with one voice, and yet it now seems that there were those that were doing things under their own accord. More than that, whether these Hunters succeed of fail it could pull the Republic into a full scale war with the OPA.

RE: Answering a call
"What I ask of you is very grave. These Hunters must be stopped." He leaned forward and held up a disk. "I am about to commit treason to the Order that I love, Duncan. But the Order must be of one voice. The few can not drag the Order in to another Olivan. Duncan, if even one of them succeeds, it will mean all out war between these rebel Jedi and the Order. It will be a return of the Force Wars. I can not allow that."

He reached forward and transmitted the data, "this is the encryption keys for the teams that have been dispatched. I can not trust this task with anyone. The Chancellor has her spies within the Ranks of the Order. Even within the Council it's self. You Duncan must stop them. Quietly, though. This must not come to light. Less the Order will loss all credibility."

RE: Answering a call
Duncan studied the holo image of his teacher, hoping that it was that his former teacher was playing a practical joke on him. "How can I accomplish such a task Master? If the Vengence goes anywhere near where they are it will be noticed." he said. "Or are you saying I need to go hunt them down on my own?"
