Understanding the great mystery 9/5/21
Tesara Anerin — 09/07/2021
“Ahhh. I’m sure Ava would be happy to have you back with her if that’s the choice you make.”  She smiled, then turned to Durro, motioning for him to follow her.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/07/2021
Durro drains the rest of his tea and returns the pot to the kitchen. He addresses Nova as he gets his bag;
"If you're still here later this afternoon, I can introduce you to Master Palpatine. I know you're not a Jedi, but maybe he can advise you in a way I cannot." Durro grins and continues; "After all, he is a wise Jedi Master, while I'm just a self-taught Jedi Knight."
His things in hand, he follows Tesara out into the grounds.

(((i’m going to wait to see if Nova wants to reply before I do anything else)))
Lady Ryne Roke — 09/07/2021
"Well since it took until morning to get picked up, I think I will still be around unless everyone gets annoyed at my questions." Nova said without looking up from her plate, "Enjoy your walk."

After they were out of sight, Nova rose and texted Ava on her comlink before she helped clean the dishes. 'how are you? miss you. got the job?'
Tesara Anerin — 09/07/2021
Tesara glances at Durro then leaves the kitchen, heading for the gardens to the same spot she had spoken to Aman in.  It was secluded and quiet enough for them to speak without being overheard.  She sits down and waits for him to do the same.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
((((sadly will have to finish this tomorrow as it’s bedtime for me)))
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/08/2021
Durro sits across from his apprentice and takes a good look at her, for what feels like the first time in months. Her simple homespun robes, just like his; made by the same hand. Her hair done in a simple braid and put in a bun to keep it out of her face, her smooth skin and kind eyes; that showed both a youthful curiosity and an emotional maturity. Most of all, he could feel the Force radiating off her. Like being near a hot mountain spring on a cool foggy morning. When had she grown into such a beautiful young woman? He had not noticed. He smiles and says;
"Master Palpatine also spoke about 'The Will of the Force.' About merely listening, rather than assuming that our training and philosophy give us the tools to discern right from wrong. That even if an action looks or feels wrong, if it's the Will of the Force, then following it is the only right path. He gave me a lot to think about."
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
Tesara looks a little surprised at his scrutiny, but nods when he speaks.  "Aman did the same for me.  I think we've been asking it questions to try and see what will come of our own will and not the will of the Force.  To simply close our eyes and allow IT to tell US what it wants from us.  Honestly it seems so simple, I felt rather foolish.  You always talked about the Will of the Force and yet for some reason I think I was trying too hard.  Instead of listening in the silence, I shouted and listened to my own echo."  She looks around.  "Durro, so many people have been led here and stay here.  This isn't like any other Jedi temple or academy anywhere else in the galaxy.  She told me about something called Mind Walking.  She asked if I knew about the Underverse and I said I did.  She told me of another place, or rather...space...called the World of Shadows.  She said it is a place to both see the past and the future.  Durro, she saw her own death when doing this mind walk."  She says quietly.  "And she was utterly calm about it.  An acceptance of her fate with no desire to try and change it or get away from it.  It was very humbling."
(((OOC there is more but I want to give him a chance to reply before she continues)))
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/08/2021
(((He is just listening to her right now, she can see that.)))
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
She waits a moment out of respect to see if he will inquire about anything, but when he does not, she continues.  "Aman told me the full story about her life in the Core, that I mentioned earlier in the kitchen as I felt it was not information that would be considered private.  I know that Nova feels we don't tell her everything she thinks we should, but sometimes what we know is sensitive, personal information.  I don't want to hurt her feelings and make her think we are excluding her, but I also don't want to spill someone else's story that I feel isn't right to share."  She sighed.  "However, she has a point.  We do need to be more open with her and others."  Tesara moved her head to hear a squeal of laughter from a youngling on the other side of the garden.  She smiled, then it faded.
"Then Aman asked me a question that I still do not have an answer for.  She asked me if I would stay here.  I told her that I had made an oath to protect Astra and her baby.  That I had promises to keep and a group of people I care about that are waiting for me.  She reminded me, gently of course, that these are emotionally driven attachments.  She asked me that if the Force directs me here, could I separate myself from those attachments to follow the will of the force and stay here, if that is what it wants of me?"  She swallowed and looked down at her hands.  "I've never been in a place where the force was so strong, and I CAN see myself staying here and learning so much more than I already know.  You know my thirst for knowledge."  She smiled a little sadly.  "But if I stay here, then this future that is coming...the destruction that is imminent...  I don't know where my place in all of that is.  If I leave, then I may be chosing a future where it is MY will I follow and not that of the Force."
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/08/2021
Durro smiles at her, and asks a simple question.
"Why do you wish to become a Jedi?"
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
She blinks at him in surprise, then opens her mouth and blinks again.  "I'm not sure I do anymore, to be honest.  If we had continued on in our own universe or timeline, things may be different.  But here...the Jedi order is a mess in every direction but here."  She presses her hands into the warm earth, taking comfort from the scent and the little whispers of the spirits.  It was so easy to hear them here, moreso than anywhere else she had been in this timeline.  "I love knowledge.  Their libraries are extensive and tempting.  But BEING a Jedi in their order...striving for Knighthood....it doesn't feel like the right thing for me.  I'm sorry."  She says morosely, knowing it will disappoint him.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
((((OOC I am not really sure how to amend the above statement as it involves game mechanics but Mike says:  "As it stands, she would have Jedi ranks but doesn't. Her desire to follow the Jedi path has always been in doubt which explains her class (Force Adept)"  )))))
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/08/2021
(((That makes no sense. lol)))
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
(((I'm also a little confused but The Traveler is saying that if I had chosen to move up to the class of Jedi I would have ranks in it and the path would have been clearer.  But all along I haven chosen not to do that as a player and my character has always been hesitant about becoming a Jedi in this timeline.  Since we BLAMO started in this one nearly game one, I cannot tell what would have happened if we had stayed in our own time.  She may have striven to and become a Jedi Knight.  But here, she didn't like what she saw from the get-go and has been reluctant ever since.  Hence not having ranks in a Jedi class when she would normally had she taken that path.)))
(((After checking the core rulebook, there are three Force related classes - Force Adept, Jedi Consular and Jedi Guardian.  There isn't one for Knight, but I chose not to change or move up/multiclass.  I believe this is what he is referring to.  Character wise, I believe Tesara is seeing the kind of Jedi she WOULD be interested in joining here with Palpatine, but she is undecided.)))
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/08/2021
(((Jedi Guardian and Consular are classes. Knight is a rank.)))
TheTraveler — 09/08/2021
(OOC: so what i am referring to is the bridging between her classes as a Player Character, and her actions as a Living Being in the game world.

@Tesara Anerin , I can call you on my way home to help you understand what I am referring to.

@Durro Thel-Tanis is right, Jedi Knight is a rank achieved at level 7 while moving up in the Jedi Classes.

This is the scope of the problem, Jedi skills and ranks are open only to those taking Jedi Classes.)
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
((OOC Mike I cannot talk until after 530pm as I am working on a super tight deadline project))
TheTraveler — 09/08/2021
(5:30pm it is @Tesara Anerin )
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
(((OOC have spoken with Mike, returning to play)))
But BEING a Jedi in their order...striving for Knighthood....it doesn't feel like the right thing for me.  I'm sorry."  She says morosely, knowing it will disappoint him.

Tesara glances once more at the house.  "I'm torn between staying here with these people and returning to Baklid to fulfill my promise to Astra and her baby."  She looks down at her hands and there is a thickness to her voice that betrays her.  "I don't know what I want.  My mother used to say "If you don't know what you want, you can't have it."  Until I figure out what that is, I'm stuck in limbo.  I'm sorry, I know this isn't what you were hoping for me."  She inhales, trying to push back tears.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/08/2021
Durro sips his tea, then places the cup down. Leaning towards Tesara he says;
"So you don't want to be a Jedi. That's fine. I should have noticed something when you stopped wearing the padawan braid."
With a deft and gentle wave of his hand, her lightsaber lifts from her belt and falls gently into his waiting palm.
"What's this?" He asks gently. Smiling he adds; "The answer may be rote, but think. What is this?"
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/08/2021
“It’s a weapon powered by a Kyber crystal.”  She says, brushing her face with one hand to get herself back under control.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
"It is the weapon of a Jedi Knight." He corrects. How often he has said this to her. "And for you, it's a chain; holding you back."
He pauses for a moment.
"Why did you want to become a Jedi? And if it's no longer your desire, why have you continued to wear the robes, why carry a Jedi's weapon?"
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/09/2021
Tesara cringes visibly, then closes her eyes, taking a moment, trying to decide how to respond.  After a moment, she opens her eyes and looks at him.  "You trained me for five years on Lanus.  I wanted to be what you were, I wanted to learn how to use my skills to help people beyond my own village, my own world.  And that might have become a reality if we had stayed in that time, that universe.  But we didn't.  We came here.  The more I saw of the Jedi here and less and less likely it came that we would ever return to our own time, the less I wanted to be a Jedi.  But I didn't want to disappoint you.  I kept the lightsaber and wore the robes because I was still your padawan.  I didn't know what my future would be as a Jedi here, with no formal academy training or way to move towards knighthood...the less it appealed to me.  The lightsaber is not what is holding me back, Durro.  I am holding me back.  And now this is me telling you that I don't want to hurt you or make you feel as if you weren't a good teacher, but it's time for me to acknowledge that my path lies elsewhere."  She looks down at her hands.  "I understand that means no longer carrying a lightsaber or wearing the robes.  I am fine with that.  I would hope that I could keep the kyber crystal within it, but not the weapon itself."  She says quietly.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
Durro smiles kindly at her.
"We are what they grow beyond. That is the burden of all masters.' I heard Master Yoda say that to Master Tiplar once. I didn't understand it then, but I do now. Tesara, you've become a powerful Force user, a kind and mature young woman, and your heart is in the right place. You will never be a Jedi, but perhaps that's a good thing. I've passed on all I know and you no longer need me anymore. I'm just holding you back. You've grown beyond me, and while that's painful to admit, it is the purpose of being a teacher. My job is to become irrelevant, and I have."
Durro stands, and looks at Tesara's lightsaber.
"For months now, I've mulled over an idea. The Force doesn't belong to the Jedi, nor does helping people, or the acquisition of knowledge. There was an ancient order of monks in our universe that Jedi are taught about in galactic history, some believe they may have been the order that gave rise to the Jedi. They're called the Dai Bendu, and they believe in 'The Bendu' or 'The Balance.' Ashla, the light side. Bogan, the dark side. Bendu, the balance between them. In light there is darkness and in darkness can be found light. Death gives way to life, and life returns always to death. Creation is destroyed and from destruction new creation comes. The Cosmic Force feeds the Living Force, which returns to the Cosmic Force. I had dreamed of setting up Hope Medical Station somewhere remote on Baklid VI. Of continuing the work of the Jedi who did it before, and while healing people's physical ailments, attending to their spiritual ailments as well. To teach the principles of Bendu and help bring balance to the world."
He smiles wistfully
"I'm not sure I'm ready. I am a Jedi Knight, a warrior. Too steeped in the corruption of the Jedi and too tainted by the Clone Wars. You however, are not."
He gestures to the ground in front of him."
"Kneel." He tells Tesara gently.
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/09/2021
She listens, feeling the tension slip from her shoulders and she relaxed as he spoke. He wasn’t upset with her.  The idea of Bendu intrigued her. She was mulling over all of what he had said when he asked her to kneel.  She obeys quickly and instinctively, not quite sure of what is going to happen.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
"The Order I envisioned values knowledge above all else, and sharing freely of that knowledge second. We live in harmony with those around us, serving the Will of the Force, though are unafraid to defend those who cannot defend themselves, so long as it's the Will of the Force. I name you Tesara Anerin, The Learner, first of the Je'Dai Bendu."
He extends a hand to help her up and then embraces her in a tight hug.
"I'm very proud of you, my former apprentice. Your destiny is your own, and always has been. You're no longer my apprentice, though the learning never stops."
Stepping back, he holds up her lightsaber.
"This is still the weapon of a Jedi Knight. As you're no longer walking that path, I'll hang onto this. The Kyber crystal isn't exclusive to the Jedi either, but it came from our universe and symbolizes a life that could've been but no longer is. There's another Kyber crystal out there, in this universe, waiting to choose you. I'm sure it'll be a fantastic journey to claim it."
As he puts the lightsaber in his bag, he continues;
"This is where your Jedi journey ends, and your real journey begins."
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/09/2021
Tesara stares at him blankly, momentarily stunned into confused silence.  "JeDai Bendu?"  She looks bewildered.  "I'm not sure I understand.  Are you knighting me into an order that doesn't exist?  I understand the idea of the balance between light and dark being the Bendu but I haven't set my foot on that path, as I don't know what it even is.  I don't know what path I want to follow yet."  She says, a small frown creasing her forehead.  "I will certainly look into the Bendu as I have never heard of it, but it is also possible it doesn't exist here."  She inhales, her spine straightening slightly.  "Durro, I appreciate what you did, releasing me from being your padawan, and I will always be grateful to you and honor your teachings, but what happens from here is solely my own decision.  I cannot be a JeDai of the Bendu when I do not truly know what that means."  She shifts from foot to foot, looking momentarily uncomfortable, but then her face sets into calm resolve.  "Your heart is always in the right place as well, Durro.  But that Kyber Crystal called to me in the cave on Lanus.  It is imbued with my life force and it belongs to me.  The lightsaber, no.  That is the weapon of a Jedi and I am not a Jedi, therefore I have no right to carry a lightsaber.  But the Kyber crystal belongs to me."  She says quietly. There is no malice, no edge of frustration to her voice, merely calm determination.
She holds out her hand for the crystal that belongs to her.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
Durro withdraws the lightsaber from the bag, and with practiced motions dissembles it with the Force and extracts the crystal, floating it to Tesara's waiting hand and putting the reassembled lightsaber back in his bag.
"Of course. I was acting on what I was told when I imbued my own crystal. What you do with yours is your decision."
He sighs.
"As for the Je'Dai Bendu, said order does not exist in either universe; it was my idea. An attempt to blend the good teachings of the Jedi with some of the Bendu ideas of balance, as well as being open to any other forms of knowledge, particularly about the Force, no matter where they come from. You embody that perfectly, in my opinion, while I'm still too indoctrinated in the corrupted dogma of the Jedi. It was supposed to be a great honor; I consider you worthy of the idea before I myself am. It sounds foolish when put the way you did, though."
He smiles slightly.
"I suppose the Je'Dai Bendu will have to wait."
He turns and starts walking back towards the house.
"I meant everything I said; I no longer see you as my apprentice. You've learned everything I have to teach, and must continue your journey without me. I've thought about and meditated on what Master Palpatine suggested, and I feel that I can't stay; though I really want to. I do have a solid plan for the near future, though."
"What about you? What do you want to do? Or are you still unsure?"
@Tesara Anerin
(((Has Tesara imbued her crystal? Durro needed 30 days and four dice rolls to imbue his; I was unaware Tesara had gone through that.)))
Tesara Anerin — 09/09/2021
((( @TheTraveler please reply to The Wanderer with your answer on his question)))
She holds the crystal in her hand.  "Thank you.  As for staying or going, I am still undecided.  I will speak with Master Palpatine myself."  She says.
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
He nods.
"You're always welcome to accompany me, of course. As partners, rather than teacher and student."
With that, he goes in search of Master Palpatine.
@Tesara Anerin
@TheTraveler
TheTraveler — 09/09/2021
(OOC: It was my understand that this crystal came with the character as part of her backstory. It is my memory that she did imbue the crystal while during the course of the game. If this is mistaken, I am open to being corrected. It is not my understanding that she imbued the crystal prior to the game beginning. That said, I do want to point out the flawed rational to take the crystal or lightsaber from her in the first place. But that is neither a ruling or expression of the rules, just an opinion.)
@Tesara Anerin
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
(((My only question is; "When?" Durro had a 30-day stay on Lanus to do his. In accordance with the game rules, he meditated all day every day for 30 days before performing the ritual. The party had a few things happen while he was "incapacitated." I was unaware of Tesara ever being incapacitated the same say; doing nothing but meditating for 30 days. Rolling for Alter, Sense, and Control. Etc. Durro has done that, I was unaware Tesara had. The player would know better than I.)))
Tesara Anerin — 09/09/2021
((OOC I must have misunderstood because I thought that Durro had to do that to construct his own lightsaber and that working with the crystal was a part of that.  If that 30 day trial was only to imbue the crystal to be put into an already constructed lightsaber, then no, she did not do that.  In the backstory Wanderer wrote, Tesara found her crystal in a cave on Lanus.  I assumed that she had bonded with it by the simple act of finding it and attuning to it, but if imbuing is a different thing, then no, she has not done that)))
@Durro Thel-Tanis @TheTraveler
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
(((Aye, imbuing the crystal and constructing the lightsaber are two separate tests. Imbuing the crystal takes a successful roll each in Alter, Sense, and Control. A full day of meditation can lower the DC of one of those categories by one. Each category can only be lowered by 10, so you get max benefit from 30 days of meditation (which you almost need, TBH). Constructing the lightsaber simply requires a successful Craft: Lightsaber check, but said check can only be attempted once per day.)))

(((That was from memory, I could be wrong. There is a section about it in the book. I believe page 84?)))
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/09/2021
(((OK that explanation makes sense.  Imbuing is different than being called to by it and hearing its call, etc.)))
We'll consider this thread over as game is starting in <1 hour.
/end
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/09/2021
(((Well, I may pick it up again if I do not find Palpatine in-game, or if we do not finish our 'business'. For now, aye, end.)))
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/15/2021
Durro sits in his room, in his favored meditative pose. ( ?‍♂️ ) A green crystal, the Kyber crystal from the ancient magik school, floats in the air before him. He can hear its soft singing in his mind, and despite knowing most Jedi need a month in meditation to imbue their crystal, he decides to try it now. Is it arrogance, or is the Force guiding him in this tranquil place?
(((ROFL)))

(((Even after 30 days, this would have been a failure. lol)))
He meditates on the three steps, as has been ingrained in him from age 11:
First, Harmonize the Self.
Second, Harmonize the Force.
Third, Harmonize the Crystal.
After long moments of concentration, of sweat beading on his forehead, of the Kyber crystal wavering in the air before him, his eyes fly open and the crystal drops. He gasps, and shakes his head in frustration.
"You'd think it be easier the second time." He grumbles aloud, though he is alone.
Retrieving the crystal, he listens to its song. It is louder, more focused, and had been since he started. He smiles.
"Well, maybe it'll be easier after all."
@TheTraveler
Before he begins meditating again, he fires off a quick text-message to Tesara.
[Come meet me in my quarters; I've made an interesting discovery. - Durro]
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/15/2021
Tesara is alone in the garden when she receives Durro‘s message. She is a little surprised, considering their last interaction was awkward and uncomfortable.  She takes a moment to be grateful for the calm she feels here, then get up and head for Durro’s room.  When she arrives, she knocks quietly.
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/15/2021
"Enter." Durro's voice filters through the door.
Once she is inside, Durro opens his eyes and gestures for her to take a seat. He offers her some tea, and when she is comfortable he begins.
"I decided to imbue the Kyber crystal I found in the mountains of Delphine this morning. I made an interesting discovery. While I failed; the clarity and focus afforded by Master Palpatine's estate will make the meditations required for another attempt easier, and therefore faster. I'm not sure how much faster, but now may be a good time for you to imbue your crystal, if you still desire to."
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/15/2021
Tesara listens then nods.  “I would prefer not to be here for 30 days, so any possibility of shortening that time is welcome. I’m…”  She paused, frowning.  “I have been given a clear message that this is not where I should stay.  I’m looking forward to returning to my friends.”

"It's up to you, Tesara." Durro says with a smile. "Your destiny is your own. I'm going to imbue mine, though."
He sips his tea and closes his eyes.
"Unless you have more, we're done here."
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/15/2021

@Durro Thel-Tanis

"Will do."
Just before she leaves he adds,
"Let me know if you decide to come with me, or strike out on your own."

(((In session, the storyteller said that Durro would have said his goodbyes to the other characters before beginning his meditation, since he cannot be interrupted and knows they are likely to leave. Having thought about what that would look like, I am doing a brief add-on to this inbetween.)))
11.20.0969:

Taking a break before beginning his meditation, Durro seeks out Tesara, knowing she is likely to leave before he is finished.
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/19/2021
Tesara is in her room, speaking to Ava on her commlink. She sounds stressed.  He can hear her discontent the call and moments later, she opens the door, her bag slung over her shoulder.  She looks astonished to see him.  “Oh!  Oh good, you’re here so I can tell you.  I’m leaving to go meet Ava on Lanus. Astra is having intense visions and I’m going to go try to help her.”  She says.  Her cheeks are flushed.
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/19/2021
Durro places a single hand on her shoulder and emits a calming presence; something he had to do often when she was younger, but less and less as she matured.
"Take a deep breath, Tesara. Your panic helps no one, and only serves to distract you."
After a beat, he adds;
"I came to see you off, I suppose. I'm intending to imbue my crystal and I had a feeling you'd be gone when I finished."
@Tesara Anerin
Tesara Anerin — 09/19/2021
Tesara closes her eyes for a moment, focusing.  When she feels more calm (assisted both by his calming energy, as well as the calm emitted from Master Palpatine) she opens her eyes.  “This is a good place to do that.”
@Durro Thel-Tanis
Durro Thel-Tanis — 09/19/2021
"I have something for you. A going away present, as it were."
He takes her hand in his, and presses the warm, smooth shape of his blue Kyber crystal into her palm.
"As I told you when I lent it to you for meditation; it's imbued with my life force. I've been able to feel others, like Master Undulli, through their crystals. See some of their memories. Having one's imbued crystal is like having a part of that person; I want you to take this with you. You may no longer be my apprentice, but I'll always be your master, even when you've far surpassed me."
He embraces her and adds,
"With this crystal, a part of me will always be with you."
@Tesara Anerin

She embraces him in return.  “Thank you.”  She says quietly.  “I will keep in touch with you to keep you updated, but through commlink messages instead of calls, as I don’t want to interrupt your imbuing focus.”  She slides the Kyber Crystal into an inside pocket of her coat where her own lies, near her heart.  “Good luck.”  She smiles at him.
