Kira was born and raised in Austin, Texas, to David Gatewood and Maire Gatewood. Her father is a wealthy rancher from central Texas. Just like the famous Texas family from the 80's TV show, Kira's family found their fortunes during the Texas Oil Boom. But this was not the true source of the Gatewood's power. During the late 70's, her father became a up and raising star of the Silver Ladder. Drawing on his Christian faith, he worked closely with Harvey Pander to set the ground work for the social and political shift in power within the Silver Ladder. For years, the two men shaped and worked their way through the ranks. Earning the loyalty of critical Cabal's across Texas. But their work didn't stop in the realms of the Super Natural. The two men formed powerful political allies.
As her family rose in both power and wealth, Kira's father won a seat within the Texas State Senate. This gave him access to a wider Republican base where David's and Harvey's conservative message resonated. Kira's mother is the prefect housewife. A trophy wife who is a two time beauty pageant winner. Who's hard work showed via a picture prefect home and a prefect smile during public events. Throughout Kira's early life, she was raised as a prefect Christan daughter. Groomed for being in public, she attended many rallies and speeches with her father. It was at an early age that Kira realized that while she knew she didn't want the life of her mother, she wasn't completely sure she wanted the political life of her father. It was at this stage in her life she started to look for other paths.
As Kira grew up, her closest childhood friend was Sarah Taw Wááh (Sarah Three Moon). Sarah was the Kira's nanny while she was growing up and later stayed on to be the family's maid. Sarah helped Kira to explore more nature and spirit oriented faiths. As Kira's understanding of the realms of the spirits grew, she became more comfortable. Her confidence continued to grow but it all had to be done in secret. While her mother and father were slightly understanding, the public image of the family had to be protected. Kira was made to understand how important this image was. It wasn't until Kira was an adult did she actually start to explore this new religion in its depths. Before this, she only explored it through books.
When Kira turned 13 she had an very spiritual driven dream. This dream was so much more different then any other dream she had before. In her dream, she walked along the stacks of a massive library. She found herself surrounded by more books than there were stars in the sky. Beyond her floors opened up in to entire worlds of books. It was if the entire world she was walking in along was a library unto its self. As she was roaming through the library, she spotted an odd looking ladder in the middle of a great courtyard. From somewhere above her, she heard a sound call out to her. As if she was drawn up the ladder. Kira slowly climbed upward towards the source of that strange sound. It was if it was calling her name, summoning her to something great.
Kira looked around and saw the world far below. Around her clouds moved freely. She didn't realized how far she had climbed. Beyond her, there were strange clouds over the horizons and Kira knew that her fate was tied to them. There was so much at stake and suddenly felt scared. She wasn't sure if this is what she wanted. She didn't know if she should continue to climb higher or maybe she should just turn around. From the distance she heard the clash of lighting and the roar of thunder clapping. The strange storm clouds were growing near and Kira didn't know what to do. Fear gripped her heart as she held on to the ladder tightly.
As she held there to the ladder, she saw a black Raven swooping down from the clouds above her. The strange black bird circled her and the ladder as Kira watched. Kira watched the bird with great wonder. She couldn't explain it but she felt a strong connection with bird. Kira felt her will and conviction to her path renewed. Within the eyes of this black bird, Kira saw the wraith of mother nature being unleashed across the plains of Texas and beyond. The bird cried out once more as it circled Kira turning its body so that Kira could get a good long look at its back and more importantly in to those deep eyes. In that moment, Kira felt the winds around her picking up. The large wings of this bird reached upwards and flapped as it rose upward through the clouds once more. Kira watched the bird disappear in to the clouds. Kira knew that this would not be the last time she saw that Raven.
With her strength renewed by that Raven, and drawn by the sounds calling her, Kira continued her climb upward. The ladder continued upward through the clouds till she reached its end. She was driven to this end by that sound that called out to her. As Kira reached the top of the ladder, she climbed up on to the top of a cloud. Around her clouds swirled before her. She could see the flow of time moving within these clouds. Beyond time, she saw how each person's fate were connected. Some connections were so strong that they glowed bright. With each new cloud, another new connection was formed. The weave of time seemed endless and filled Kira with a great sense of wonder. This was what she was meant to be, and Kira finally realized it. She could reach out and touch time itself.
Then without warning, Kira heard a strange sound. To Kira, it sounded just as if the universe and time its self were coming to life in her ears. For a moment Kira stood there in tranced by that sound. Her face filled with wonder. Kira turned to see the source of the sound and saw a large strange tower behind her. Kira felt drawn to this large tower as if the sounds of the universe was calling to her. Kira started walking towards this large strange tower. As the sound grew, Kira felt the universe around her in full motion. As she waved her hand before her, she could see the fabric of time weaving through her fingers. She felt the power of the universe as she worked her fingers through the different colored fabric of time.
As she took a few steps, she saw that same large raven swoop down towards her. Its loud cry echoed just over the sounds of the universe. The raven flew towards Kira with the large tower between them. Just as it passed the large tower, the raven reached out with its wings and transformed in to a large black wolf. As its paws touched the cloud the wolf continued to run towards Kira, but she felt no fear of the animal. Kira couldn't explain it, but she knew that this wolf/bird like creature was going to be closely linked to her. Deep within the eyes of the wolf Kira saw the same image as she saw in the raven. It was the wrath of nature waiting to be unleashed. But this time, Kira knew her place. She was the calm that followed the storm.
"STOP!" Kira called out as her words formed in to flames between her and the wolf. The wolf reacted to Kira's commands and came to a stop just feet from her. Kira didn't stop as she continued towards the tower. As she walked passed the wolf it turned to follow her towards the tower. The sound of the Universe echoed across the heavens as Kira waved her hands manipulating time around her. She came to a stop before the large tower. She looked up towards the top of the tower and saw a lone figure shrouded in time. Kira knew in her heart what needed to happen next. She drew in a deep breath and screamed out with all her might. As her words left her lips, they sprang to life in to large flames for the figure to see. "I am Angelique Lockheart, I WILL become a Master of Time and Fate!" In that moment, Kira had awaken in to the realm of the supernatural.
After high school Kira went to Baylor University (2006) at her father's demands. Kira was far from the prefect student. However, it was her roommate that ensured that Kira passed her classes. That roommate was Rebecca Pander. While neither could explain why they were so close, the two became like sisters. Thanks to Rebecca's help, Kira was able to score higher in her classes. The two were much like an odd couple. Rebecca was more the stay in and study kind of student while Kira enjoyed doing things that she found much more enjoyable. It was this drive for fun that cemented the pair's relationship. Near the end of their Senior year, Kira finally convinced Rebecca to attend a party with her. A fateful choice that would impact both young women deeply.
Rebecca wanted to try to explore more to life then just studying and exceptional grades, and Kira was more then happy to show her a good time. Kira didn't like the idea of drinking and driving, so she enlisted Rebecca's help while at the party. The plan was for Rebecca to not drink while Kira had fun. However the plan went south with Kira and Rebecca were separated. Kira didn't realize how long Rebecca had been missing, so she went searching for her friend. It wasn't long till Kira found a half beaten drugged Rebecca naked in an upstairs bedroom. The rape was brutal and left Rebecca near death. Kira called the police and got Rebecca an ambulance. However, it was Kira's father along with Rebecca's father who showed up nearly an hour later.
The two men took Rebecca to the hospital while followers ensured that no one at the party remembered the two coeds ever being their. While Rebecca didn't remember much of the rape, she knew it happened. Kira never left her friend's side during the entire time. Any official reports were taken care of while the public image of both families were protected, one thing couldn't be taken care of. It was soon learned that Rebecca was with child. Kira and Rebecca's father and mother were the only two that knew of the child and his birth. Rebecca's father ensured that no one else would know.
Kira helped her sister through the entire ordeal. Rebecca leaned heavy of Kira during this time. Kira proved her friendship and loyalty to Rebecca. The pregnancy was shrouded in secrecy as Rebecca's father protected the shame of this birth that was out of wedlock. It was a shame that Rebecca hated that she brought upon her family. However if it wasn't for Kira, Rebecca's fate might have been completely different. Something that Rebecca was grateful for. Out of gratitude, Rebecca named her son after Kira's grandfather. Official records reflected that Ryann Pander was born to Rebecca's mother. Ryann Pander would be the single largest secret that Kira could keep for Rebecca.
