RE: Shop talk (Jaden and Bay)
Bay threw his head back and laughed.
"Buhahah, of course I meant an uninhabited planet!" he said chuckling and wiping a tear from his eye, "Oh man, your face was priceless."
He giggled a bit more before he continued, "The idea is nothing new and it's been done a few times as far as I know. Basically, you land on a mineral rich planet, one without life in it naturally, place a few droids to get to work harvesting the minerals, and then use those minerals to build more droids to help. After you have enough of them, you order them to stop making new droids and you just show up and collect the resources they've harvested. If you want, you don't even have to tell them stop building new droids. With the exponential growth, it's totally feasible for them to mine an entire planet for you."
He took a moment and looked up while he thought for a second.
"Ideally you want the planet near a star using the sunlight as a source of energy for your droids. You'd want at least two repair droids to start with. Those two would process the raw materials and build new droids. You'd also want at least one Miner droid and one more intelligent droid for the role of supervisor. You'd also want to set up an initial clean space for the repair droids to work in."
Bay sighed and smiled, "It's a bit of a hefty up-front cost to get started, and you won't see the returns on it for a while. You'd also have to make sure the planet is unclaimed and that you've set up proper security to protect your droids and minerals. But man, give it a few months and you can build your own armada if you want."
